Updates from Principal Langille
Dear KRHS Family,
Happy New Year! Welcome to 2023. In typing that year, and probably for all of you reading it that are connected to the Class of 2023...are going yikes, time flies, and graduation is around the corner. Yes indeed it is, but please don't start to celebrate too much just yet; there is much work to be completed and fun to be enjoyed.
I am so sorry that this is getting to you all so late into the month. With a holiday break leading right into the month, it slipped away into all the business of coming back from a week away. True indeed, I took the week and enjoyed it with family and my two cats. It is sooo very important that we take time with family, our pets, and of course our friends. I hope each of you returned to us recharged and ready for a fun spring.
Student Council is working hard to bring a proposal to me for a fun filled "Winter Carnival" with hopes to be running the week just before February/March break. If you have thoughts for activities, dress up days, and anything else carnival related...see one of your class representatives. Many are asking as they hear about this, but wait, what about the spring time/end of the year fun we had...well yes, that too is in mind, but that will look more like a fun-filled field day. More to come in coming weeks though on Winter Carnival.
Our learning community, unlike so many others, so far is fairing quite well with good health. To keep things running this way, I am encouraging all of us to stay home when sick and consider any and all precautions when feeling under the weather. If you need ideas or help with deciding whether to stay at home or not, contact one of our school counselors. If you need to be out and feel as though you can't keep up with work, contact a school counselor or school administrator and we can build a plan for you.
Encouragement for January to help spread some Cougar Love and Support: tell someone in our learning community how important they are to you or how they help you to be your best and when you do, try to be as specific as you can. Another is, look at our busy calendar and our busy athletic calendar online and come to some games, plays, concerts to show support for our learning community; our family!
Kind regards,
Charles Langille Jr., KRHS Principal

School News and Announcements
Based on student and staff feedback, we will plan to create an additional flex period in our schedule by eliminating one advisory day each week. On Thursdays, there will no longer be advisory, but there will be two flex sessions. This will afford students more opportunities to see teachers and/or attend enrichment offerings!
Please send in a written note, or email to
hsattendance @kearsarge.org with an explanation for you child's absence. Written/emailed notes must be on file to excuse any absence(s).
It's officially your year of Graduation! Happy 2023! Reminders as the year continues:

Projections for ELO participation this school year are expected to exceed 60 students!
Free HVAC101M Classes For High School Students
Spring registration is now open for high school students to sign up for Manchester Community College’s HVAC101M course, offered on Saturdays beginning on January 21st 2023.
The class is FREE due to the Early College Governor’s STEM scholarship!
This is a great opportunity for any high school student looking to explore HVAC as a possible career choice. HVAC101M is a three-credit college course that could propel an HVAC career or at the very least, be used as an open elective toward any college degree.
Two 8-week sessions of HVAC101M will be offered this Spring, either beginning on January 21st or on March 25th (this section is actually 7 weeks):
English students are preparing for the annual Poetry Out Loud competition, which is a National competition where students recite poetry in front of judges. The competition starts in the classroom where grade-level winners are determined. Eligible students compete at the school-wide level by reciting two poems in front of the judges. Participants at this level work with a local poet, who helps contestants practice and improve their recitation. The winner of this stage moves on to regionals, states, and then nationals where students from across the country compete for scholarships. Good luck to all contestants!
Upcoming Opportunities in Experiential Learning
Harvard Model United Nations will take place from January 26th - January 29th with 16 students who are excited about the experience in Boston.
YMCA Youth and Government is beginning to organize organizational meetings during Flex sessions where students have the opportunity to craft legislation at the state level in Concord.
D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award/Nominee Advancement
Of the applicants received by the local D.A.R. chapter, Lily Cicoria’s application scored the highest and has been forwarded to the State Level. The initial results will be announced at a ceremony in March. Congratulations to Lily on making it to this level!
Re-enactors in the Classroom
Thank you to William McKinley, Steve, and Laura Shepherd for coming in character all the way from the American Civil War to visit with our history students. They will never forget the visit, the costumes, or the hard tack!
