School News and Announcements
Eleventh-grade students will be participating in the New Hampshire Statewide Assessment System (NH SAS) in Science on May 25th, 2023.
State assessments are an important part of a student’s core educational program. They provide an evaluation of student mastery of content and skills in various academic areas, serve as one tool for measuring the degree to which students are on track to graduate high school and be college and career ready and help inform future instruction in the classroom. Along with student work on classroom assignments, projects, essays, and local assessments, state assessment results give teachers and you, the parents, important information about where students are on their path toward academic success. If you choose to exempt your student from the state assessment (permitted in RSA 193-C:6), you must submit a form to the high school. Please contact your child’s school to receive a copy of the exemption form. Please understand that if you choose to exempt your student from the assessment, no scores or summary of individual student performance, based on the statewide assessment, will be provided to you or your student.
Schools will send a student’s Individual Score Report home prior to or at the Parent Conferences of the first term in the next school year.
The active testing time for the NH SAS is approximately 1.5 hours and will occur during the scheduled flex periods from 9:12 - 10:46 AM.
The only devices students are allowed to use to take the test are school-issued laptops or Chromebooks. They cannot use any other device. All students should plan to have their school-issued Chromebook charged and ready on SAS testing day.
On March 10-12, two Kearsarge Regional High School Nordic skiers competed at the Eastern High School Championships in Ripton, VT. Elias Baer and Kylin Frenkiewich represented NH in the competition that included the top 24 girls and boys from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and New York over three days of racing.
On March 17-19, four Kearsarge Regional High School Nordic skiers raced at the New England U16 Championships in Fort Kent, ME. Andrew Brahan, Benjamin Clough, Nethaniel Stepp, and Ava Valle represented NH in the event that featured the top 24 girls and boys under the age of 16 from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts during the three days of races.
Nineteen theatre students attended the New Hampshire Educational Theatre Guild regional festival located at Salem High school. The students, both actors and technical support, performed the dramatic one-act entitled "Fallen". The show was excellent with adjudicator feedback highlighting "this was a beautiful story you told". Lily Cicoria and Phoebe Simano were recognized for their performers and each received an "All-star Company" award. It was a successful weekend for the Kearsarge Actors Guild.
The Kearsarge Actors Guild traveled to Hartford Connecticut to the Bushnell Theatre on March 9th to see the touring production of "Hadestown". This trip included 45 students from drama, band, and chorus. It was a wonderful trip that started with a nice dinner at the Downtown Marriott where Courtney Lauster, a member of the touring cast and KRHS alumni, joined us. Courtney spoke with many students about her experiences such as: applying to a theatre college, auditioning, and performing for a touring show. She was an inspiration to all. Hadestown was an amazing show, from start to finish, and a valuable experience for all.
Friday, March 17th, Liliah Bartholomew competed in the 2023 NH State Poetry Out Loud competition. Congratulations to Liliah Bartholomew, who finished runner-up in the state! Liliah will serve as the alternate in the event that the winner is unable to compete in the National Finals in Washington DC May 8-10, 2023.
Fouty-four (44) students from KRHS attended the HYPE (Hosting Young Philosophy Enthusiasts) Conference at UNH Durham where there were over 800 students from across New England wrestling with the essential question: "How does individual agency and self-determination sustain a fulfilling student life?"
Also, 10 students from KRHS participated in the Pre - Legislative session of Youth & Government which allowed students to practice sessions in their individual chambers as well as in committee settings. KRHS own Ari Stoneking ran for governor giving a great speech before the assembly and Anela Branco opened the Pre - Legislative session with a phenomenal invocation as House Chaplain.
