Welcome to the library where you will find so much more than books! We are your information hub and can assist you with locating and providing a wide variety of resources and services for your students - resources (both digital and print), in class support, mini-lessons, project assistance and more.
Q: Where is the PHS Library?
A: We are located in the main Hub just across from the entrance to PHS. Our phone number is 281-234-5098 if you need to get ahold of us.
Q: What are the library hours?
A: M-Th 6:45 am - 3:15 pm, Fri 6:45 am - 3:00 pm
Q: Can staff checkout books and materials?
A: Staff is absolutely welcome to checkout materials and resources from the library. Staff may check out an unlimited number of items at a time, unless it is an item that is extremely popular. Please bring your staff ID with you to speed up the check out process. Staff are also encouraged to checkout/download up to 5 digital books (eBooks or Audiobooks) on MackinVIA for up to 3 weeks, and use our Flipster online digital magazine platform via the Flipster app on your mobile device.
Q: Do I need to bring my book in to renew it (recheck it out)?
A: No, we can renew your book when you scan your ID card. Feel free to stop by or email us to request a renewal. We will let you know if we have a waiting list and can not renew your book at this time.
Q: What if I need to print something in color?
A: Katy ISD has it's own Print Shop and we ask that you send all color printing to be printed and delivered to campus through the Print Shop.
However, if you locate a document or interesting image last minute that you would like to use with your classes and you need to print, we ask that you send a pdf document to all the library staff and indicate how many copies you would like us to print. Due to extremely high prices of color ink, we ask that you limit color printing in the library to last minute, emergency documents that are not able to be printed at Print Shop in time. We also ask that you limit the quantity to less than 20 pages.
Poster Size Printing:
Additionally, sometimes you would like to print something in color in a larger poster size. For these jobs, if you are planning on using the print just one time, please send the pdf file to our PHS Financial Clerk, Amy Seidel. If you are planning on laminating and using the poster for several years, you can send a pdf file to us in the library to print for you.
Q: Who are the library staff?
A: Kari Heitman is the PHS librarian. She has been in education since 1996 - elementary, middle, and high school levels, and has been a librarian since 2012. Mrs. Heitman is a former English and History teacher and is constantly reading for both fun and learning!
Samantha Thompson is the PHS Library Aide. She graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in English. She has an adorable goldendoodle named Buckley and loves to read sci-fi/fantasy and historical fiction!
Q: Where can I find your PHS Library Canvas Course?
A: Our PHS Library Canvas Course is listed in the left hand margin navigation menu for each student and staff member when you log in to your Katy ISD Canvas dashboard or any PHS course. If you would like to self-enroll for the library canvas course in order to receive announcements, participate in book clubs, or other library activities, you can self-enroll using the following link: tinyurl.com/phslibrarycanvas.
