Library FAQ

Q: Where is the PHS Library?

A: We are located in the main Hub just across from the entrance to PHS. Our phone number is 281-234-5098 if you need to get ahold of us.

Q: What are the library hours?

A: M-F 6:45 am - 3:00 pm

Q: What is the checkout policy?

A: Students, staff, and parents are encouraged to checkout materials and resources from the library. Students may check out up to 5 items at a time for 4 weeks, and in most cases, can be renewed. Please bring your student ID with you to check out books. Students may also checkout/download up to 5 digital books (eBooks or Audiobooks) on MackinVIA for up to 3 weeks.

Q: Do I need to bring my book in to renew it (recheck it out)?

A: No, we can renew your book when you scan your ID card. Feel free to stop by or email us to request a renewal. We will let you know if we have a waiting list and can not renew your book at this time.

Q: What if my book is overdue or lost?

A: Overdue notices will be sent weekly to students' school email addresses and guardians' email addresses on file. If your book is overdue, please stop by the library to ask if it can be renewed or to return it.

Students will need to pay the replacement cost for any lost or damaged books (damaged beyond repair). We are sometimes asked why parents can't purchase a replacement from a bookstore where the prices are less expensive. The books bought for a KISD library are library bound quality and intended for numerous circulations. The vendors also charge a fee for the processing and cataloging of the books so they are ready to put on the shelf upon arrival. Students will be refunded if a lost book they paid for is returned in good condition within a reasonable amount of time.

Q: What if I need to print something?

A: Printing is available for the following prices:

    • Black and white = 10¢ per side

    • Color = 50¢ per side

Q: Who are the library staff?

A: Kari Heitman is the PHS librarian. She has been in education since 1996 - elementary, middle, and high school levels, and has been a librarian since 2012. Mrs. Heitman is a former English and History teacher and is constantly reading for both fun and learning!
