Art Honor Society
Faculty Sponsor: Katie McKinley
Requirements:
Maintenance of a B average in art classes, as well as normal classes.
Participation in 50% or more of activities to stay an active member.
Dues ($10) - can be waived if needed.
Completion of 8 service hours total to stay in good standing at the end of the year. Opportunities will be given throughout the year; entering art contests counts as well.
Attendance at meetings (total of 2 absences allowed).

English Honor Society (updated 2025)

Requirements:

A weighted GPA of an A (3.7 or higher) in your English classes.
An overall weighted GPA of a B+ (3.4) or higher.
A clean disciplinary record.
Dues - $10
Service Requirements: Earn 5 service points per year in order to stay in good standing and earn a cord at graduation.

French Honor Society

Requirements:
Must be currently enrolled in French 3 or higher with an A/B French GPA.
Dues ($10) - can be waived on request.

German Honor Society

Must be level 3 or higher with good grades.
Students in German 2 can be invited based on interest and merit.
Participation in 70% of activities in order to stay an active member.
Dues ($10).
Participation in at least 2 fundraisers/ service opportunities.
No application; membership based on invitation by teacher.
International Thespian Honor Society
Faculty Sponsor: ?
The International Thespian Society (ITS) is an honor society that recognizes and celebrates student achievement in theatre. Students in grades 9-12 who attend a school with an active Thespian troupe and demonstrate sufficient quantity and quality of work in theatre arts are eligible for membership.
How to Join
To be invited to join, students must earn at least 12 points through theatre-related activities in the first the school year. Each point represents approximately 10 hours of quality work in performance, technical theatre, or other theatre-related contributions.
Induction Date: May 23rd (TBD)
Students who qualify this year will receive invitations on April 28.
Membership Fee: A one-time $35 fee is required for lifetime membership.
Deadline to Accept & Pay Dues: May 5
Officer Positions
Students with at least 60 points may run for an officer position within the troupe. Candidates may be nominated by a peer or self-nominate by May 7. Voting will take place, and new officers will be selected by May 12.
Ongoing Participation
To remain in good standing, students must earn at least 10 points per year while actively participating in theatre-related activities.
Joining ITS is a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow theatre students, develop leadership skills, and gain recognition for your dedication to the performing arts!
Science Honor Society (More information about SNHS is available here.)

Requirements:
Typically SNHS members are in 11th or 12th grade
There is an application, which specifies the requirements for a student’s total number of science courses already taken. There is also a GPA requirement in science courses taken. Honor violations, good behavior, and activity within SNHS (e.g., points) are also factors that can affect a student’s membership in good standing with SNHS.
Ms. Brown can supply more specific information.

Spanish Honor Society

Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society)

Requirements:
Must be a current sophomore or junior who has completed three years of college preparatory mathematics at the Advanced level or higher.
Maintenance of a B+ (3.3) unweighted GPA or better for all high school level math classes, with all semester grades at a C or better.
A cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 3.0.

Social Studies Honor Society

Requirements:
Must be a rising junior or senior to apply.
Requirements: 3.0 unweighted GPA, have taken at least 2 social studies/history courses in 9th/10th, pay $10 dues (FRL reach out for financial aid) and by application
Applications come through current history teachers in April and are due the end of April. If a student doesn't hear anything from their history teacher by mid April, they should email Ms. Krieger (mkrieger@k12albemarle.org).
Officers design goals for the year–the goal is education in history and social studies.

Tri-M Music Honor Society
Faculty Sponsor: Jennifer Morris
Requirements:
Must be currently enrolled in Band, Choir, Orchestra, or Piano.
Must have an A in performing ensemble and a B average for all classes.
Initiate performs a duet with assigned mentor to demonstrate membership.

National Honor Society

Must be a junior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and no discipline referrals.

National Technical Honor Society:
Faculty Sponsor: NONE
Currently being run by student Holland Uzzell
Requirements:
Open to all CTE students.
Must have a B average in all classes.
One time dues ($30).
Applications due in November. NO teacher sponsor currently.
We have applications at the start of every school year (so, we are not currently accepting new members), and we meet in Room 120 roughly every other Friday. This year, we have had numerous students go and shadow physical therapists at ACAC Base Clinic, and this past weekend, we were able to compete and attend a HOSA SLC Conference in Williamsburg.
