Summer classes at PVCC

Virginia residents have access to an excellent community college system. There are all kinds of classes you can take.  PVCC classes are reasonably priced for Virginians. You may even earn college credit.  Plus they offer financial aid if cost is an issue. What a cool way to explore an interest you can't explore in our school!  

You can start a college transcript.  

Note that courses taken at PVCC in the summer do NOT go on an ACPS transcript.  But you CAN request a transcript from PVCC to upload and show to colleges/universities!  Check with PVCC transfer specialist to see if your credits transfer to college.  https://www.pvcc.edu/summer-pvcc

Inside Design Summer Program 

is an introduction to the ways in which designers think and work. For young people considering a future in design, this program cracks open the excitement and opportunities of architecture and related design disciplines. No prior course or subject experience is necessary, just the initiative to break the bounds of conventional modes of thinking.  Low tuition costs range $200 virtual-$1000 in person

Virtual NSLI-Y

Applications are now open!  NSLIY program of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, provides U.S. high school students with beginner-level foreign language and culture experience. Eligible U.S. high school students can apply to study beginner Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Korean, Russian, or Turkish. Selected finalists will receive a merit scholarship to study the language and associated culture(s) in live, online classes with peers from across the U.S.!

Lingletes:  Linguistics at UVA coming September 2024

Do you want to learn more about Linguistics—the study of languages?  Learn how languages are built, how they evolve, the death of languages, and compete in linguistics challenges with professors and UVA undergraduate students in linguistics.  This Zoom course runs on Wednesday evenings starting September 11 in the evening with a Lingletes Challenge day at UVA on Saturday, November 9.

Summer Language Institute at UVA

The Summer Language Institute (SLI) is rapid language acquisition. It offers eight-week Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Latin, Russian, and Spanish courses. 

Students attend classes five days a week and up to seven and a half hours a day.

Scene Study Camp for Teens: July 15th – 19th, 9:30am-3pm Show at 3pm on Friday

Eligibility :Ages 13 – 18

Cost: $200/per camper (includes daily snacks and a camp T-shirt)

This week long summer camp is designed specifically for teens to begin exploring and rehearsing professional acting techniques. Using principles of Uta Hagen, Stanislavsky and Sanford Meisner the students will begin by focusing on character analysis and development. Once a solid understanding of their character is defined, the student will establish relationships and motivation within the structure of a two person scene. The week will culminate with a performance/ showcase of the scenes! The mastery and execution of these acting skills will serve as a foundation for any future roles they wish to pursue.

NOTE: If students wish to join the class in the capacity of stage manager, prop master, or lighting technician that is also an option!


4 County Players Scholarship Program

We award scholarships directly to post-secondary institutions in amounts up to $1,000.00 using funds earned from sales in our Bistro. We invite students who are entering or continuing at a post-secondary institution and who have volunteered at Four County Players to submit an application. Application due date is April 30th, 2023. 

Applicant must have been involved in either a Mainstage, Shakespeare at the Ruins, or Cellar production or contributed forty hours of service to the theater in the last twelve months.

Applicant may apply to renew the scholarship one time if he or she is enrolled in a post-secondary institution and contributes forty hours of volunteer service to Four County Players in the last twelve months.

Engineering Girls at UVA Summer Program

The UVA School of Engineering and Applied Science is leading this unique collaboration between Charlottesville Women in Tech, Tech-Girls and the School of Education and Human Development to provide a variety of immersive engineering experiences. This summer the program will offer two engineering tracks to explore: Biomedical Engineering and Civil and Environmental Engineering with more tracks coming in future years. Programming for the Engineering-Girls@UVA will continue to include hands-on engineering activities, community building, lab tours, guest speakers, and student panel discussions for young women in high school, so they can be inspired by the variety of opportunities to study and work in engineering.

Physics/Astronomy Festival on the National Mall in Washington, DC (coming in JUNE)

Hofstra University's Astronomy Festival on the National Mall (AFNM) in Washington, D.C., offers visitors a free guided tour of the sky on Saturday, June 22, from 6-11 p.m., and is organized by Dr. Donald Lubowich, Hofstra's Coordinator of Astronomy Outreach. AFNM features solar, optical, and radio telescope observations; hands-on activities, demonstrations, handouts, posters, banners, and videos; speakers from scientific and educational organizations, and a chance to mingle with astronomers. Dr. Lubowich and local amateur astronomers will set up dozens of telescopes on the National Mall. AFNM visitors will meet representatives from 40 of the nation's foremost scientific institutions, organizations, and universities, who will present exciting demonstrations and answer questions about the latest astronomical discoveries and careers in science. Starting at 6 p.m., visitors will be able to view sunspots with the help of specially filtered telescopes. After dusk and until 11 p.m., telescopes will provide close-up views of colorful double stars, nebulae, and star clusters that sparkle like diamonds on black velvet.

Virginia Discovery Museum seeking student interns

Are you a student with an interest in education, STEAM, the arts, or just getting involved with their local community? Each year the Virginia Discovery Museum hosts 20+ select interns who help in our galleries, with Summer Camps, and with Date Nights, all while gaining valuable job training and forging working relationships with staff and guests. Through Statistics Sanity students will lay a foundation of statistical knowledge through fun experiments involving real-world data. Young Civil War Historians Conference at Gettysburg College

Professional Accounting Career Exploration (PACE) at North Carolina A & T State University  July 14-19, 2024

Program Description: PACE is a 5-day free residential program for high school students interested in pursuing a career in accounting. Hosted by the prestigious North Carolina A&T State University with support from the Deloitte Foundation from July 14, 2024, to July 19, 2024, PACE offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience and explore the accounting profession in a fun and interactive way.

Work 15-20 hours in the spring, summer and fall of 2024 as a communications assistant. Twice-Exceptional Summer Academy 

The Twice-Exceptional Summer Academy scheduled for July 2-3, 2024 (Session 1) and July 23-24, 2024 (Session 2) is a two-day semi-residential experience for high-ability and neurodivergent high school students in grades 9 – 11. The program is meant to help prepare students for success in college and provide opportunities to socialize with other twice-exceptional students. It also provides information and community support for the parents of twice-exceptional adolescents. Families are welcome to attend both sessions.  Ohio.  $200.  A parent/family member must attend full time with student.
