FAFSA and Virginia College Advising Corps--Get Help with FAFSA for FREE (at UVA)

The Virginia College Advising Corps (VCAC). VCAC is a college access organization based at the University of Virginia that places recent college graduates in high schools throughout Virginia to serve as college advisers and support students with their plans for life after high school. 

Our college advisers have received extensive training on how to support families with navigating the new application, and we would like to extend our support to high school seniors who have not yet finished it.  To that end, they are offering virtual FAFSA assistance appointments to any high school senior in Virginia through June 28, 2024. 

VCAC college advisers are available to support students with the FAFSA and VASA (Virginia Alternative State Aid Application) on weekdays, including in the evenings. Need help finishing your FAFSA? The Virginia College Advising Corps is offering free virtual appointments through June 28 to help you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid in order to see what financial aid you may be eligible for. The Cameron Impact Scholarship 

is a four-year, full-tuition, impact-driven undergraduate scholarship awarded annually to 10-15 exceptional high school students who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, community service, extracurricular activities, and academics. The Cameron Impact Scholar is unique among their peers in their desire to directly impact  their communities and in the world at large. Our Scholar aspires to contribute to positive forces for change and plans to tailor their education to that end. The Cameron Impact Scholarship covers the full tuition, fees, and books at any accredited U.S. based college or university that the recipient chooses to attend.

As a merit-based program, the Cameron Impact Scholarship is open to all applicants who meet the GPA and citizenship requirements, regardless of race, socioeconomic status, religion, sexual orientation or any other background factors. Breakthrough Junior Challenge

The Breakthrough Junior Challenge is an annual global competition for students to inspire creative thinking about science. Students ages 13 to 18 from countries across the globe are invited to create and submit original videos (2:00 minutes in length maximum) that bring to life a concept or theory in the life sciences, physics or mathematics. The submissions are judged on the student’s ability to communicate complex scientific ideas in engaging, illuminating, and imaginative ways.

The goal of the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program is to increase the number of minorities studying agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, and the related disciplines. National Scholars are required to study in the following or related disciplines.

Agriculture, Agricultural Business/Management, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering/Mechanics, Agricultural Production and Technology, Agronomy or Crop Science, Animal Sciences, Botany, Food Sciences/Technology, Forestry and Related Sciences, Home Economics/Nutrition, Horticulture, Natural Resources Management, Soil Conservation/Soil Science, Farm and Range Management, Other related disciplines, (e.g. non-medical biological sciences, pre-veterinary medicine, computer science)


The USDA 1994 Tribal Scholars Program 

seeks to increase the number of American Indian and Alaska Native students studying agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, and related disciplines.

The USDA 1994 Tribal Scholars Program combines classroom study with paid work experience that leads to employment at USDA. Through this program, USDA seeks to boost the number of tribal college and university students studying and graduating in food, agriculture, natural resources, and other related fields of study, and help build the pipeline of future agricultural scientists and professionals. The program also strengthens USDA partnerships with 1994 land-grant institutions.

The program provides full tuition, employment, housing or a living stipend, employee benefits, fees, and books each year for up to 4 years to selected students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, food science, natural resource science, or a related academic discipline beginning at one of 35 federally recognized tribal colleges and universities and continuing at other higher education institutions. The scholarship may be renewed each year, contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and normal progress toward the bachelor's degree.

Eligibility

You plan to attend and are enrolled, currently attend, or recently graduated from a Tribal College or University. QuestBridge Program (for Juniors)

Are you a low-income high school senior who has excelled academically, but feels that the nation’s best colleges are financially out of reach? The QuestBridge National College Match can be your pathway to a top college. Through this college and scholarship application process, you can apply for free to the nation’s best colleges and be considered for early admission and a full four-year scholarship. 

We seek students who have demonstrated a level of academic achievement that meets or exceeds the admissions standards of top tier colleges.  We are looking for high school seniors who have shown outstanding academic ability despite financial challenges. Finalists typically come from households earning less than $65,000 annually for a household of four and have minimal assets.
