The following resources are designed to support districts in developing, maintaining, and reviewing their LAU Plans. Each resource serves a different purpose within the planning and review process. Together, these tools can help districts develop a clear plan, support team discussion, complete annual updates, and evaluate program effectiveness over time. Use the resources below based on where your district is in the process.
Use the Annual LAU Plan Review Checklist if your district already has an established LAU Plan in place. This tool is designed to help districts review the parts of the plan most likely to change from year to year. The checklist supports targeted updates and revisions so the LAU Plan continues to reflect current district practice.
Best used for:
Annual review of an existing LAU Plan and identification of needed updates
Use the LAU Plan Template to develop a new district LAU Plan or revise an existing plan. The template is organized around the key components districts should address when documenting procedures, services, and responsibilities related to the identification, placement, support, and monitoring of English Learners.
Best used for:
Developing a new LAU Plan or making substantial revisions to an existing plan
Use the Template Discussion Guide to support team conversations as you work through the template. It is designed to help district teams think through local procedures, clarify responsibilities, and develop stronger responses for each section of the template. It is not a separate compliance document. Rather, it is an optional tool intended to support planning and collaboration.
Best used for:
Team discussion, planning, and drafting responses for the LAU Plan Template
Federal and State guidance require districts to conduct an annual evaluation of their English Learner (EL) program to determine whether services are effectively supporting students’ academic achievement and English language development. These tools are intended to help districts examine multiple data sources, review program strengths and areas of concern, and identify action steps for improvement.
