Two choices of time commitment for busy teachers
This course is designed to help educators understand and apply translation practices that promote access and meaningful language learning for multilingual learners. Each module builds a deeper understanding of how translation of instructional materials can be leveraged as a tool, not a solution, to support English Learners in the classroom.
Participants may choose between two completion options.
Option 1 offers an extended learning experience with additional resources and structured application activities that support participants in applying new strategies within their own teaching contexts.

This self-paced course allows participants to engage with the material at their own speed while providing opportunities for meaningful reflection. This course provides an overview of the US Department of Education Office of English Language Acquisition resources and how educators can best support English Learners. The course is organized into 5 modules, based on the US DOE EL Toolkit, ED Tech for English Learners, Family Toolkit, and Newcomer Toolkit and including supplemental information and next steps on co-teaching, dual-identification, instructional strategies, newcomer resources, and digital tools.
Course Objectives
Understand the US Department of Education recommendations and evidence-based practices for supporting the needs of English Learners at school;
Identify and analyze tools and resources for meaningful access to the curriculum for all students;
Identify and analyze tools and resources to create an inclusive environment for all students; and,
Evaluate, plan, and implement evidence-based strategies for supporting the language needs of English Learners.
