August 19th - 21st- Ceramics 1: Introduction to the class-- Syllabus.  What will we make? How does grading work?-   Procedures & Expectations.  Student information sheets.  Receiving your google classroom ID for class.  Looking at this web page for references.  ALICE and fire drill information.   Ceramics 2:  Anatomy of the wheel- first wheel group established- handbuilders are working on either the large form matching set-   Students will have 4 weeks per project- beginning next week.

August 24- 28th  Ceramics 1: begin notes: Anatomy of a Vessel, Life Cycle of a vessel, Clay bodies (2), grog, mold, and tools.  Review: Clay bodies, Anatomy of a vessel, life cycle of a vessel, vocabulary and tools.   Notes about wedging and why- wedging practice-- 2: ram's horn and spiral and checking for air pockets.  Kiln room tour.  How to fill out a grade sheet and a grade calculation sheet!  "Do you need help" section on webpage beginning our first project- pinch pot- pinching and learning how to use tools.   Ceramics 2:  Throwing on the wheel "getting born"  Throwing a 5" tall cylinder -Week one finished- 3 more weeks left

August 31st -September 4th   Ceramics 1: Review Filing out a grade sheet for Pinch Pot-  refresh ram's horn style of wedging and new style- spiral.  Clay is wedged and checked and then formed into a ball.  Step by step directions are posted on the whiteboard in the classroom and on google classroom.  Learning how to use tools:  banding wheel, smooth rib, needle tool and dentist tool- learning how to feel for thinness, trimming the rim.  Ceramics 2: week 2-- at the end of this week you should be at the 1/2  way mark.  

September 8- 11th   Ceramics 1:  Trimming the rim, smoothing for thinness, adding a foot or feet- handles? Lugs? Decorations?  We learned 5.  Are you meeting or exceeding the standards for the pinch pot?  (these standards are located in your syllabus) Pinch pot should be in greenware no later than September 11th  Ceramics 2: week 3  Studio Night

September 14- 18th:  Ceramics 1: Mid- Quarter- for ceramics, they are progress grade.  B=  you met the standards- pinch pot in greenware and you are working on Coil Mug-  C=  You do not have your pinch pot in greenware. Coil Mug Ceramics 2: Quarter grades are progress grades. Week 4 Final week-  New wheel and handbuilders next week- Conferencing

September 21st- 25th:  Ceramics 1: GLAZE NOTES Studio Night After Wednesday the 4th- All Students are working on Coil Mug Project #2 in greenware no later than September 29th.   If you have your mug in greenware you can glaze your pinch pot.  Ceramics 2:  Week 1-- New wheel and handbuilders next week- Conferencing

September 28th -October 2nd:-  Ceramics 1: We will pause one work day and go over our glazing steps and you learned --2 new terms:  Dryfooting and Crawling.  Glaze Notes- Tuesday- February 10th-- If you have your coil Mug in greenware you can glaze your pinch pot.  Parent Teacher conferencing Monday and Thursday, no school on Friday. No studio night this week Ceramics 2:  New groups -Week 2

October 5- 8th-  Ceramics 1: steps for project #3--coil bowl are posted.   Remember if your coil mug is not in greenware- make that a priority.  Once your coil mug is in greenware you can glaze your pinch pot.  The kilns are up and running.  Ceramics 2:  Week 3

October 13 to 16th-  Ceramics 1-  Many are finishing up project #3 Coil bowl, this project should be in greenware no later than October 26th.    Ceramics 2-   Week 4

End of Quarter 1 October 16th

October 19- 23rd-  Ceramics 1: Students should be working on Project #3 Coil Bowl.  Step-by-step directions are on the whiteboard in the classroom.   Ceramics 2: week 4-- Final Greenware work week  Studio Night 

October 26- 29th-- Ceramics 1: Coil Bowl  in greenware by October 29th. Step-by-step directions are on the whiteboard in the classroom for Concave/Convex.  Glazing  Ceramics 2:  Glazing  March 10th- studio night

November 2nd -6th-- Ceramics 1: Coil Bowl should be in greenware but as always the earlier the better!  Many have started this project during Q1   Ceramics 2: Week 1

November 9 - 13th-  Ceramics 1: Students are working on Concave/Convex, constructing with coils, paddling, smoothing, shaping and drying.   if you are behind come on in and join us for studio night!!!  Ceramics 2:  Week 3 for groups

November 16 -20th-  Ceramics 1:  Concave convex in greenware no later than December 2nd A few are working on their slab lidded box.  Ceramics 2 - Week 4- final week for groups/Studio Night March 31st

November 30- December 4th - Finishing up the Concave/Convex this week  Slab lidded box step by step-- some are working on the slab lidded box.  Ceramics 2 Week 4 Studio Night 

December 7-11th- Slab lidded in greenware no later than December 11th Ceramics 2: Glazing

December 14- 18- Ceramics 1: Glazing Slab Lidded Box- Review for test on Blooket December 15th- test on December 16th   Ceramics 2: Glazing - tidying up for the end of the semester.
