Reciprocal Teaching is a reading strategy in which students collaborate to analyze a text. In this strategy, the teacher selects a rigorous text, establishes a purpose for reading, and assigns students into groups of five. In their groups, each student selects or is assigned a different role. Students work independently to complete their task and come together to synthesize their information. This strategy can be modified for students of various reading abilities. This is a powerful way to have students practice their reading skills and learn to work in small groups.
