Thank you Kayla & Alyssa for your inspiring words & sharing your journeys to college & career. We are in awe of you as you embark on your doctoral journeys! Kayla is working towards her PhD in Mechanical Engineering at University of Colorado after graduating with her Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Portland State University. Alyssa is working towards her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at University of Saint Augustine in Texas after graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Kinesthesiology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Kayla & Alyssa were both part of our AVID National Demonstration recertification year in 2012. We look forward to updates on their progress. Mrs. Domingo would be so very proud of both of you.
Pre-AVID students are DREAMing BIG! Students researched colleges. They created a handmade college t-shirt that they may proudly wear on College Shirt Wednesday!
A HUGE Mahalo to 🐶 Kaimuki & 🐯 McKinley High Schools for hosting orientation for our WMS 8th graders! We loved seeing all the hands on Career Pathway & Academy classes! Bonus was getting to see our former WMS students THRIVING in high school!
Much Aloha to our KAN, Ke Ala Naʻauao, mentors from University of Hawai'i for leading us through career exploration activities! We loved playing Egg 🥚, Chicken 🐥, Dinosaur 🦖and exploring our career options. So many possibilities! Please come back soon!
On Tuesday, October 24, AVID students visited the NACAC National College Fair at the Hawaii Convention Center. Students learned about a wide variety of colleges and universities from the US, Australia, United Kingdom, Japan, and more. Special thanks to Ms. Kam-Felipe, Mr. Z, Mrs. & Mr. Tang, & Mrs. Lee for chaperoning!
On Saturday, October 21, Washington Middle School students participated in the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology annual open house at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Students participated in a wide variety of hands-on activities. Special thanks to Mr. Nishi & Mrs. McKnight for chaperoning!
First field trip of the year! What does it mean to be a Student Athlete? Exciting matches between McKinley vs. Kaimuki varsity white & red girl’s volleyball teams! Special thanks to Mr. Morikuni & Principal Okamura for the warm welcome. We loved cheering hard for BOTH McKinley & Kaimuki!
The purpose of Planning for Success Family Night is to promote school success for all students.
We shared learning strategies & support systems that will enable all students to be successful at WMS and beyond.
During the AVID Induction Ceremony we formally welcomed students new to our Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program.

Our new AVID shirts look amazing! Spread Your Wings and SOAR! Thank you to the Domingo family for their generous donation which we used to purchase the shirts. AVID students will wear their shirts on field trips and Fridays!
