BEGINNING TEACHERS

Welcome New Teachers - We're Here for You!

You’ve come to the right place. All of us in HKKK are so excited for you to begin this amazing journey. We know that while teaching will be exhilarating, it will also be challenging. To help you stay both grounded and inspired, we’re excited to have you as part of our mentoring program. Our hope is that you will be inspired, uplifted, and comforted each day, knowing that you're not alone.

In the HIDOE beginning teachers receive 3 years of support - the first 2 with an officially assigned mentor to aid your journey. Your principal will match you with your mentor to collaborate throughout the year via non-evaluative observations, feedback, planning, and professional development.

Mentor/Mentee Cycle

Year 1 Teachers

- Paired with an Instructional Mentor
- Meet with your Instructional Mentor for an hour a week (or 180 minutes/month) to work through your Professional Growth Plan
- Participate in the Quarterly Beginning Teacher Learning Community meetings
- Invitation to West Hawaii Teacher Induction & Mentoring Program events

Year 2 Teachers

- Continues to be paired with your Instructional Mentor (continuation from Year 1)
- Meet with your Instructional Mentor for an hour a week (or 180 minutes/month) to work through your Professional Growth Plan
- Participate in the Quarterly Beginning Teacher Learning Community meetings
- Invitation to West Hawaii Teacher Induction & Mentoring Program events

Year 3+ Teachers

- Informal support from School Level Personnel and WHTIMP Team
- Invitation to Quarterly Beginning Teacher Learning Community meetings
- Invitation to West Hawaii Teacher Induction & Mentoring Program events

Mentor Eligibility Flowchart

If you currently receive mentoring from another program (TFA, MUSE, etc) or are an experienced teacher (2 or more years) or Long-Term Sub, you do not qualify to be part of the West Hawaii Teacher Induction & Mentoring Program.
