Becoming an instructional mentor offers a unique opportunity to guide and support new teachers during their crucial first years in the profession. Your expertise is vital in providing a strong induction experience that will significantly advance their instructional practice.
Through mentorship, you will help novice teachers create and sustain Optimal Learning Environments where every learner's diverse needs are addressed, with an unwavering focus on equity and continuous academic, social, and emotional growth.
This role also provides substantial professional development for you, the mentor. The Foundational Institute for Mentors (FIM) equips participants with the critical knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to initiate and maintain effective mentoring relationships. You'll share your expertise and foster your own professional growth, all while contributing to a collaborative and thriving educational community.
Beyond the profound professional satisfaction, mentors also receive financial compensation:
An annual Mentor Stipend of $750 for your first year of mentoring.
An annual Mentor Stipend of $1000 for each year after you complete FIM.
The Foundational Institute for Mentors (mentor training) is designed to build your mentoring expertise over a series of 5 full-day sessions, designed to fit into busy teacher schedules. You will receive a sub code to use in order to attend all sessions.
Additional FIM options are available on other islands for those who are unable to attend, or prefer in-person training. WHTIMP will cover the cost of a substitute, your school will have to provide travel arrangements.
