The HĀ Assessment Model is used to assess an experience of HĀ to broaden and deepen the next experience for more learners.
On the backend, if we know that the six HĀ senses were strengthened in an individual and/or group, then we can look for the conditions that were present that led to these outcomes. On the front end if we set intentions to create the conditions that lead to HĀ outcomes, then we can look for signs of these outcomes being strengthened.
Thus, the model holds both the optimal conditions for HĀ as well as the indicators of HĀ and include:
Place: Connections to place
Performance: Responsible performance of tasks
Proficiency: Skillful completion of tasks
Partnering: Collaborative effort
Practices: Individual and group established behaviors
Process: Honoring of Hawai‘i
The assessment process includes interviews, artifacts, and other tools to capture a series of stories or mo‘olelo that identify 1) which conditions were present in the learning environment and 2) evidence of the strengthening of HĀ.
These conditions enable leaders and trainers to create more HĀ learning environments to impact more learners. These indicators enable evaluators to assess levels of readiness for the collective advancement of the learning and leading in a HĀ context.
The following tools are available for your use. They are organized by levels of readiness as well as depth of reflection - from the individual, to a small group, and out to a larger collective. Each tool is accompanied by a guide to inform its use. That being said, the tools are intended to be used in the context of your unique community. OHE supports are available to you should you need further guidance or if there are any requests for facilitation training. Please contact kaanohi.kalama-macomber@k12.hi.us with any requests for support.
