Our Programs
Hawaiian Studies Program
Hawaiian Studies is a K-12 program that provides curriculum support and resources in the instruction and learning of Hawaiian culture, history and language. This may include integration of Hawaiian concepts and content into classroom lessons delivered by teachers and/or school-level Cultural Personnel Resources.
Ka Papahana Kaiapuni Hawaiʻi

Nā Hopena Aʻo
A Department-wide framework to develop the skills, behaviors and dispositions that are reminiscent of Hawaiʻi’s unique context, and to honor the qualities and values of the indigenous language and culture of Hawaiʻi.
Professional Development Opportunities
Aupuni Palapala is an education professional development office that seeks to increase knowledge and implementation of Hawaiian values, language, culture and history within Hawaiʻi Department of Education classrooms across ko Hawaiʻi paeʻāina by providing, presenting, and promoting culturally relevant professional development.
ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi Hawaiian Language Courses Learning Opportunity - Community School for Adults (Spring 2023)
In an effort to expand the use of ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language), the Office of Hawaiian Education (OHE) is excited to continue the partnership with the Community School for Adults (CSA) as we offer ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi courses to all Hawaiʻi State Department of Education employees (certified, classified, casual hires, and substitutes). Public charter school employees may also enroll and will be placed on a waitlist and may participate pending space availability.
