The Problem:
Students at Kealakehe feel stressed about when and how to start their college journey. Although we have resources at Kealakehe to help, the vastness of our school makes it difficult for efficient communication between students and teachers. Students who decide to start this process themselves are often overwhelmed by the information found online and get discouraged because of the scope of resources.
Generally, students in Hawaii are not exposed to higher education opportunities as much as those in the Mainland. While getting a college degree is not the only path for a fulfilled life, Hawaii students still have a narrow perspective on future opportunities.
There is a large gap in access to resources in Hawaii compared to the Mainland, but also within the school itself. Students who constantly work to seek out information regarding college and education options are the only ones who receive information and guidance, which is still limited. Those who have not been told about the opportunities in the first place will not know what to seek out.
Our Mission
To provide a supportive and resourceful space for Kealakehe High School students to learn about the college process.
To concentrate resources into one area with college-oriented students to learn together about the unlimited opportunities beyond high school.
To share information, resources, and experiences that expand the knowledge about college and post-secondary education options.
In addition, this club will guide students on self-reflection, discovery, and understanding, which is invaluable for their future and well being. Understanding one’s identity through their perspective, values, and experiences will help students’ journey to find their passion in life. This club will also focus on valuing the present and understanding that the value of self is incomparable to your academic performance. Here is a place to separate oneself from academic validation.
