Students will learn techniques that incorporate mixed media to create both 2-D and 3-D art. Some projects students have created are mixed media pieces using recycled material.
General Art 1 is designed for the beginning art student who would like to explore and experience a variety of art methods and materials. Basic skills in the following are introduced: drawing and painting, design, ceramics, print making, some craft projects, and art history. Individual projects are assigned after basic skills have been covered.
General Art 2 is for the student who wants to explore and experiment with various art materials rather than specializing in one area. Students will do independent work in their interest areas such as crafts, print making, drawing and painting. Entry in art shows and written reports are requirements of these courses.
Art has always been my voice, my escape, and my connection to the world. My journey began with oil painting in high school, where I first discovered the transformative power of color, texture, and emotion on canvas. This passion led me to Evangel University, where I studied and majored in art, immersing myself in diverse forms of creative expression.
Over the past two decades, I’ve explored a wide range of media, from watercolor and ink to oil pastels, oil and aryclic painting, ceramics, acrylics, and photography. Each medium offers a unique lens through which I interpret the world and communicate my experiences
I’ve had the privilege of contributing to community art projects through internships in mural painting and ceramics, which deepened my appreciation for the collaborative nature of art. These experiences shaped my approach as an educator, where I strive to inspire curiosity and creativity in my students. For the past nine years, I’ve taught art to elementary and high school students, guiding them to discover their unique voices while fostering their technical skills and confidence.
Through my art and teaching, I hope to nurture a love for creativity that transcends the classroom, encouraging others to see the beauty and potential in themselves and the world around them.
