Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart. ~ Pablo Casals

Guitar

Students enrolled in guitar will learn the basic chords, understand laws as it pertains to music, as well as learn to play with a quartet. Students will learn how to play songs, finger chords, strum the guitar, and learn about performing in front of an audience. It is a skill that most people do not have.

Guitar 1 & 2

Guitar 1 is designed to teach the basic techniques to perform on the guitar. Basic music reading will be covered along with classical techniques (picking) and simple strumming accompaniments to pop/rock music. Musical activities will include playing, strumming, and listening to music songs.

Guitar 2 builds on the skills acquired in Guitar 1. More guitar chords will be learned, complex guitar playing techniques will be studied and a wider variety of music will be explored.

Instructor

Jonathan Kea

Mr. Kea has been teaching guitar at James Campbell High School since 1990 (32 years). He graduated from Kamehameha Schools in Kapalama and was the band director at James Campbell High School from 1982 - 2017 (25 years) so he really enjoys all things musical. Learning how to play guitar is a great way to get involved in music and learning how to read music is something most people can't do.
