Welcome to the field of Career & Technical Education! We are excited to have you join the CTE team in Johnston County Public Schools! We are passionate about CTE and value our role in helping students to plan and prepare for life and career after high school. You have joined a team focused on giving students the best advantage we can to access family-sustaining wages, rewarding careers, health and wellness, and become contributing members of society.
We strongly encourage teachers to begin completing program requirements as soon as possible. It is important to note that while the district has support systems to help you, it is your responsibility to ensure your teaching license is in good standing as a condition of your employment.
See JCPS CTE Financial Support listed below this section for information on expenses that are eligible for reimbursement.
This is a common licensure route for provisionally licensed teachers who hold a bachelor's degree, and it results in an unrestricted continuing teaching license. This route requires teachers to affiliate with an approved Educator Preparation Program (EPP). Teachers should refer to the program of study as prescribed by your Educator Preparation Program (EPP) and any additional requirements outlined in their licensure letter from NCDPI.
While the CTE New Teacher Induction is typically not required, JCPS CTE will support your participation in one or more of the CTE New Teacher Induction modules as they align to your professional development plan and program goals. For example, many residency route teachers find it helpful to complete the CTSO module of the CTE New Teacher Induction. For more information review the information below:
CTE New Teacher Induction Program (mix of online and face-to-face modules)
Fees per module to NCACTE
$75 per module for modules 1, 2, 3, and 4

There are two program options that a provisionally licensed CTE teacher can select to convert their CTE-restricted license to a continuing CTE-restricted license . The Institute has proven to be a valuable experience for teachers.
This information is if you have chosen or are considering the CTE New Teacher Institute or CTE New Teacher Induction. You do not need both programs and once you begin one program you cannot switch to the other.
Please be sure to refer to your NCDPI licensure letter for your license expiration date and program requirements as you typically have 3 years (or less) to clear your license depending on when you started teaching. For specific questions about individual licenses please reach out to the licensing staff in our Human Resources department- Letitia Lee.
