Writing

7th Grade Realistic Fiction

Students get an opportunity to select different cards with realistic qualities. Each student gets a beginning, a problem, an ending, a character strength and weakness, and a setting. From there, they need to write a cohesive short story to get from the beginning to the end. While some may choose similar cards, no two stories are the same. Students work on learning to think outside the box in order to effectively communicate a story's theme.

8th Grade Fantasy Fiction

Students get an opportunity to select different cards with fantasy qualities: unique places and magical elements. Students also choose a beginning and they must figure out how to end their story in a concise way. They also must include elements of fantasy or science fiction, such as a battle, love, and magic. These short stories will be epic!

Argumentative Essay

Students will spend March and April writing an argumentative essay of their choosing. We'll go through each body paragraph to ensure they have solid evidence and links back to their thesis statements. This process will help them on their Forward exam where they must argue their point with valid reasoning and evidence from the text.
