2020-2021

Big Question

How do you create world peace?

Students will ponder this tough question through the lens of viewing how governments -- real and imagined -- use their people and power to reach their goals. We'll strive to show the flaws within those societies in order to help us answer our big question. We'll start by discussing the differences between discrimination, stereotyping, and prejudice, which ties into our anchor text, Maniac Magee. We'll then learn about World War II. Our lit circles for this first semester revolve around Nazi occupied Germany and World War II. We'll then move into a little bit of poetry and persuasive writing and then end the year with Dystopian Literature.
