JCCS Golf Team

It has been several years since JCCS has had a golf team,  but this year's team is full of strength. Led by Coach Matt Weaver, the team consists of 8 participants: Jason Curtis, Mason Curtis, Beau Curtis, Brennan Ruiz, Luke Costanza, Brayden Brown, Brody Crescioni, and Luke DesHotel. Golf is a very strategic sport and takes lots of dedication. This dedication shows throughout every practice that they attend. They all go the extra mile to practice on their own and their scores show it. The team is as close as family at this point. The players support each other in every aspect. It is evident that these young men love what they do and do their very best every meet.

Introducing the 2023-24 Golf Team

Mason Curtis

Mason Curtis, an eighth grader, has been a Patriot for fourteen years. He has played Golf prior to the school team. Mason played Golf for 2 years when he was younger, and was estatic when the school opened up a team. A famous Golf player that Mason looks up to in this department is Rory MacIlroy. Rory is a very successful golfer, as he was world ranked in 2012. Mason looks up to him, because he may be tiny but he is mighty. Curtis has his weakness in alignment, but this drives him to practice his hitting even more on the range. He makes up for this in his irons, putting, and chipping. Not only is Mason Inspired by professionals, he is mainly motivated by his coach and teammates.  A quote that Mason lives by is, "It doesn't matter how you get there, as long as you get there." He uses this as he strives to get better on and off the course.

Brody Crescioni

Brody Crescioni, an eleventh grader, has been here since sixth grade. Brody started his Golf journey months ago, playing at Chateau and City park. He has come a long way since he started. With his hard work and dedication every weekend he has discovered his strong suit is putting and driving. While everyone has a strong suit, they also have a weakness. Yet, Brody's weakness is losing his golf balls on the course. Grant Horvat, golf influencer, is inspiring to Brody and other young golfers by giving golf tips and tricks through his youtube channel. Brody once said, "Golf is a matter of confidence. If you think you cannot do it, there's no chance you will." Thus, expressing how he shows his boldness through his swings on the course.

Jason Curtis

Jason Curtis, a junior, has been a Patriot for eight years. Jason is a triple threat when it comes to sports. He plays football, baseball, and is now on the golf team. With baseball in season, he still makes time for extra golf practice on Sunday mornings. His best attribute so far is being able to make adjustments and putting on the course. Even on his bad days he still tries to stay as positive as he can. Jason looks up to Jordan Spieth, world ranked American Professional Golfer. Spieth encourages Jason to overcome many obstacles faces going through his golf journey. Golf is a very difficult and strategic sport, but Jason is motivated by the challenge. His top score up to this point is 46 on a 9 hole course.

Brennan Ruiz

Brennan Ruiz is an eleventh grader attending John Curtis. One of Brennan's strong suits includes being positive towards his teammates. This helps remind himself, as well as others, to never giving up. With his swings, he is best at using his 6 iron. While Brennan supports his teammates his biggest supporters are Coach Weaver and his girlfriend Aubrey. They both support him with practicing and attending his matches. Brennans role model and biggest supporter is God. Not matter what Brennan is facing, Christ is there to help build him up. He shows this through the progress that brennan has. Ruiz's best score so far is a 46 on a 9 hole course. Everyone has things they can improve on, Brennan is still working on controlling his strokes. A quote by Tiger Woods that pushes Brennan to be better is "No matter how good you get, you can always get better-and that's the exciting part." Practice makes perfect in Ruiz's eyes, so he continues to practice outside of school at Chateau.

Brayden Brown

Brayden Brown, aspiring professional golfer, has been a John Curtis Patriot for four years. His love for the game motivates him to play and to try his hardest. He is said to be practicing consistently every weekend at the Timberlane course in Gretna, and when he isn't there he is at the driving range. This extra effort that Brayden puts in goes towards working on his driving. On the other hand, he is known for his constant irons. His hard work has been paying off, leading him to get a 90 on an 18 hole course. Brayden gets his love for the sport from John Daly, American professional golfer. John is a unique and creative golfer whilst on the course. No matter how famous he gets, he stays true to himself. This is a great lesson that Brayden has learned from John Daly.

Luke DesHotel

Luke DesHotel is an outstanding golfer. His best attribute is his chipping, after his driver. He can always pick up the swing following his driver. Although, DesHotel is said to be working on picking up his head while swinging. A quote that Luke believes in strongly is, "practice, practice, practice." He uses this to work on his weakness, soon to become his strong suits. DesHotel looks up to Min Woo Lee, Australian golfer, who is 32nd world ranked right now. Min is a great inspiration, but Luke is mainly motivated by his love for the sport. His best score so far is 89 on an 18 hole course. Yet, Luke still continues practicing at the driving range and City Park.

Beau Curtis

Beau Curtis is an eighth grader at John Curtis. He has been a Patriot for the last 14 years. Beau has played Golf for the last three years. He found his love for the sport through playing with his friends. Beau and his friends are very competitive which strives him to be better. He does this by having extra practicing at home into his golf net. Throughout the years his  strengths have become his driver, confidence, and eight iron. Beau's top score so far has been 48 on a 9 hole and 102 on an 18 hole. Although his weakness is his short game. To overcome this Beau practices more on the green and his chipping. Beau looks up to Leon Curtis with a quote that he once said, "it's not going to get harder, it's going to get better." Coach Leon expresses his inspiring quote that pushes Beau to get better.

Luke Costanza

Luke Costanza attends John Curtis as an eighth grader. He has been at Curtis for the last seven years. Luke has played Golf for the last three years. He was inspired to play by his older brother who plays college golf. Luke's older brother and father help him succeed and practice outside of school at Chateau. Although both of his parents are his biggest supporters at his golf meets. Luke has been working on focusing while on the course.  With his competitive spirit, the best comes out of him on the course. Other than his family, Luke looks up to Tiger Woods. Woods is one of the best golf players in the world, Luke strives to be like him one day. His hard work is paying off with his scores. Luke's best out of nine holes is thirty six and out of eighteen holes is seventy seven.
