As the end of the school year approaches you may find yourself struggling to find the right motivation. One thing that will help you no matter what is God. Growing closer to God while juggling being a good student and, for most, an athlete, can be difficult. Finding time in your day to expand spiritually is very important. Little changes can make a huge difference. Maybe it’s reading one scripture a day, praying when you wake up and before bed, or just quickly thanking God for the blessings in your life, these few changes will have a bigger impact than you think. You don’t need to leave your old life behind when building your faith but you do need to add Jesus into it. Having God at the center of it all will bring peace that nothing else can amount to. There are so many negative aspects of our lives and sometimes you can’t see the light so… be the light. Being a light for others is reflecting the way Jesus lived. Love others, and don’t forget that everyone is made in God’s image. “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” John 8:12.
-Dr. Patriot
There are many teachers, administrators, and even students that can answer your faith related questions. Here are some words of advice from a couple of our faithful leaders here at Curtis.
Coach Beav
Coach Beav teaches philosophy classes and is also a youth minister.
What is something from your journey with Christ that you think will inspire others? The main thing is I learned that it’s okay to not be okay, and you’re never too far that God can’t reach you.
What small things can students do that will pull them closer to God? Read the good book and surround yourself with people that are committed to following Jesus.
Mrs. Muller
Mrs. Muller shows her faith with the love she has towards her students. Her husband is a pastor and she holds a bible study for high school girls on Mondays after school.
What is one thing you’d tell students who struggle to keep God in their life? If you look for your purpose and identity in this world, good or bad, you’ll always be disappointed because none of those things will fulfill you. Going and finding your identity in God will not disappoint you because God never fails and he’s always faithful.
Coach Preston
Coach Preston loves the Lord. You may hear him singing worship songs down the halls or hear him asking about the Bible.
What book of the Bible would you suggest for students who don’t know where to start? One of the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) because it’s the answer to our sin problem.
Keva Thomas
Keva Thomas is a senior who openly speaks about God to her fellow student-athletes at the FCA meetings held on Tuesdays for high schoolers.
How do you stay steady in your faith while being a student-athlete? I listen to worship music so even if I don’t have time to read my Bible I won’t get off track. Listening to worship music on the way to school or work will help me find time to still worship God.
What inspires you to speak at FCA? Knowing that my words can help others and help them from going through what I went through.
Emma Kruse
Emma is a senior who is very open about her faith and loves sharing about the good news.
What is something in your routine that keeps you from straying away in your faith? Surrounding myself with people who follow Jesus, staying in the word everyday, and consistently praying all the time.
