Neurons transmit electrical impulses from the dendrites to the axon terminal. In order to do so, the neuron membrane maintains a resting potential of approximately -70 mV. When the neuron is stimulated (by a receptor or by another neuron) an electrical impulse may be generated. A series of local depolarizations and depolarizations of the plasma membrane take place as the impulse moves along the membrane.
How can we better understand the functioning of the human brain?
