5th Grade

Learning Targets:  We will be discussing how to solve word problems with adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with different denominators.  Then we will be reviewing.

Learning Targets: We will be starting a new part in our unit on "Mixtures and Solutions." We will begin learning about concentration and what can make a solution more or less concentated.

Learning Targets: This week we will discuss early English settlements. Which ones fail? Why did a settlement succeed or fail?

Reading/Writing:  This week we will continue reading the book Dash by Kirby Larson, a historical fiction book set in 1942. For most of the lessons, students will write 2 Super Sentences and complete a written response in paragraph form. 

Homework: 

• Due Tuesday: Vocab Practice (for quiz on Tuesday)

• Due Thursday: Finish up Written Response for Lesson 16 (if unfinished)

• Due Friday: Super Sentences for "Dungarees" and "Glowered"

Assessment:

• Vocab/Super Sentences Quiz on Tuesday ("Harmony," "Pivoted," "Writhing," "Bantered," "Muzzle," and "Congregated")

Band: As we continue into page 9 of the TOE book this week, we will continue to work on our note reading and rhythm skills. Since the eagle walk is this Friday, classes will be significantly shorter. Because of this, we will have full band on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week. Students will not need their instruments on Friday!
