Students in JCPS-Approved Work-Based Learning (WBL) programs are covered under our JCPS General Liability policy. However, Kentucky Labor Law requires all employers to carry Workers' Compensation for all paid employees, including student workers.
Staffing & Supervision
Designate a Lead: Identify a primary point of contact to manage the WBL partnership.
Background Checks: Ensure employees supervising WBL students have completed a Kentucky state criminal background check within the past five (5) years by signing the Employer Compliance Agreement.
Communication & Administration
Be Responsive: Promptly respond to all phone and email communications from JCPS school and district staff to ensure student success.
Documentation Compliance: Complete all required forms, evaluations, and documents (sent by email from JCPS Forms) by the specified deadlines.
Workplace Safety
Site Access: Allow periodic site visits from JCPS staff to ensure student safety and worksite compliance.
Health & Safety: Maintain clean, healthy, and safe working conditions at all times.
Insurance: Ensure all paid student workers are covered by valid Worker’s Compensation Insurance (per KRS 342.630) by signing the Employer Compliance Agreement.
Legal Compliance
Wage & Hour Laws: Follow all state and federal laws regarding the employment of minors and student learners.
Non-Discrimination: Adhere to all regulations prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, or national origin.
Confidentiality
Student Privacy: Maintain the strict confidentiality of student information in accordance with state and federal laws (FERPA).
