College Credit: Animal Science Pathway

Scholars in the Animal Science Pathway can hear up to 12 college credit hours through our partnership with Murray State University.

Scholars may be eligible for a scholarship covering the costs of some or all of these credits.

These hours can be transferred to other universities beyond Murray.

Active Learning in Animal Science:

Scholars who choose the Animal Science Pathway have class in a variety of places, sometimes in the classroom/lab hybrid, sometimes in the Seneca Animal Lab. Like all the pathways, their experience is hands-on with a wide range of animals.

While in Animal Science classes, scholars will interact with animals of a daily basis. The classroom contains rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and even a class cat. The classroom was recently renovated in 2019. It includes new lowering and raising science tables that enable scholars to preform suturing, bandaging, injections, and dissections with ease.

Scholars will also work with chickens in the outdoor coop located between the Ag Buildings. Large livestock (horses, alpacas, pigs, sheep, donkeys) will also be brought to the school grounds for other learning experiences. Scholars will have the opportunity to demonstrate their learning through community zoos and other outreach programs. Through these programs scholars will educate both children and adults.

The Veterinary Science class is proud to work with Jefferson Animal Hospital to raise awareness about animal blood donations. Each year scholars in the class organize and host a blood donation event at Seneca. Scholars use their restraint and injection knowledge to assist Jefferson Animal Hospital Staff. Peaches the class cat is also donates his blood to help other cats in needs.
