Grade Descriptions

Grading Period 1

Engagement Grades

Coat of Arms Presentation-Students had to present their coat of arms to the rest of their classmates. If students participated they received full credit.

Coat of Arms Audience Participation- Students had to actively listen to the presenter. If students were disruptive they lost points.

Being Present Goal-Students read a picture book and had a discussion on what it meant to be present. Students then created a goal on how they were going to be present in ELA this year.

Student Online Google Survey-Students had over a week to take a survey at the bottom of our homepage. I checked the Friday it was due. If students did not complete I had a talk with them in class. I will update grades next week for the students who did not have it ready to go on Friday.

Progression Grades

Coat of Arms Product- Students earned a total of 20 points on their final product. I was looking to make sure they had included everything they were supposed to have on their coat of arms. I had many students who did not put their name on their coat of arms. If they have a zero it's because they did not turn it in or I'm waiting for them to claim their no name paper. Some students earned a 21/20 if I felt they had gone above and beyond what was asked of them.

Analogies-Students spent three days learning about analogies and then applying what they learned to their Greek and Latin roots packet. Students should have wrote the type of analogy, the correct answer, and the two sentences for how you say the analogy type. All answers were posted on the board.

Unit 8 Vocabulary Packet-Students had from Monday to Monday to complete all parts of their vocabulary packet. On the 2nd Monday we checked answers in class. If students lost points it was either because not all parts were completed that day or because they missed certain questions.

Our Town Reflection- After viewing the play on our field trip students had 6 questions they had to answer in complete sentences. If students did not see the play they had a separate assignment. Students received a 10 or more if it was clear the student took time and effort to answer the questions. Students scored a 9 if they had answered the question but could have gone more in detail. Anything less there was not much effort.

Mastery Grades

Individual Summary-After doing one together as a class, group, and partner, students read a short article and created their own GIST summary in 20-30 words. They also had to follow all directions on the board to receive full credit.

Vocab Quiz- Students had two weeks to learn the words and answer 10 questions.

Lame Words Quiz- Students had warm ups for two weeks, plus watched two videos on eliminating and replacing lame words in their writing.
