Students jumped right in this year! We used construction paper crayons (less messier than oil pastels) to draw a still life based on the first Black still life artist, Charles Ethan Porter. While using different shades of the same color they were able to create the illusion of form and value. These were displayed in the hallway and impressed the staff tremendously.
To begin the year, students had to get back into the groove of sloooowing down and taking their time, and this project fulfilled that objective.
Stay tuned! Next up: painted self portraits!
