Second graders this year are on FIRE for art! We have learned about taking our time and drawing what we see versus what we want to see. Observational drawing is a skill that requires patience and a keen eye. Students have completed a simple still life drawing and have practices drawing lines as a review of last year's line study.Â
Stay tuned: These 2nd graders are going to produce some GREAT art this year and they are JUST getting started.
We have been learning about the artist Jean Michel Basquiat. He was a painter who used bold colors and thick lines. He loved using imagery that portrayed strength! The second graders spent a class experimenting and learning how to manage paint and use a paintbrush correctly. The next class, they use black oil pastel to draw a dinosaur and then add accents with black, red and yellow paint.
