My goals for this semester were to practice drawing more subjects that weren't flower focused and to experiment with different types of backgrounds. I would say I mostly achieved it because my subjects for this semester were a person and a teapot/landscape. I wasn't able to work on my background more than I would have liked, mostly because I didn't know what would go well with my subject. I was afraid I'd ruin the whole thing if I just went for it.
My favorite work from this semester was the teapot with the landscape in the opening. It represents part of my identity and has a very calming tone with it. I think this has shown growth because not only was I able to use the media sufficiently, but I was also able to show my improvement on my composition skills when it came to using color, values, and form.
One skill I was able to develop was being able to make my objects look 3D (using form). You can see it on the ruffles of the mirror portrait and the values of the teapot that I was able to see and recreate the darks and lights from my reference photos. The most challenging part of meeting deadlines was managing my time well but also making sure I wasn't rushing through it.
Some transferable skills I think I can take away to other courses is paying attention to the details while also keeping the big picture in mind. At the beginning of my projects I was wary of how it was going to turn out, especially after the first layer of paint. I learned to "trust the process" and keep pushing even if I'm skeptical.
