Medium: Acrylic
Size: 11x13 in
The main purpose of this project was to work on figure drawing and portraits. I chose to recreate a baby picture of myself but because I didn't want to paint the face I found a way around it by putting the mirror. That way whenever I look at this painting I'm reminded that my childhood is a part of who I am and I should embrace it.
Medium: Watercolor and Oil Pastel
Size: 20x16 in
At tehe beginning of this project I just wanted to create an "everyday object." However when I was deciding on how to make my composition interesting I decided to tie in my identity and the idea that drinking tea is an important part of Vietnamese culture. Overall this piece helped me challenge myself by using water and oil pastel as my media, and I think it went pretty well.
Medium: Mixed Media (Transparency, Colored Pencil, Pen, Magazine)
Size: 8.5x11 in
This was a short back-to-school project where we printed transparent pictures of ourselves. My main goal was to add to the nature vibe I had with the original picture by adding the magazine clippings and drawing the trees from The Lorax. I wanted to make the composition more interesting and also more personal, which is why I included some of my baking recipes (even if it didn't match the theme I was going for).
Medium: Acrylic and Embroidery
Size: 16x20 in
My main goal here was to experiment with new media and I was really interested in embroidery. This led me to choosing something more nature related because it would be easier for me to do along with using cavas paper which is more fabric-like. I also wanted to play more with color schemes so I chose the purple-yellow compliment for the whole piece.
Medium: Printmaking, and Marker/Watercolor (wash)
Size: 8x13 in
I preferred printmaking over scratchboard so I wanted to choose a subject that was simple yet intricate at the same time. My main goal was to experiment more with my composition, like how I focused on the small patterns within the orchids, symmetry with the butterflies, and color to add a pop to the whole piece. However, I ending up losing quite a bit of detail when it came to printing, mostly because the tiny details I had were too shallow and there was so many that I did not have to time (or motivation) to recarve all of them. This topic was also a little more personal for me because my parents, mainly my mom, love orchids and will have about 10 of them all over the house.
