In light of recent events, we want to take a moment to send our heartfelt condolences to the Apalachee community. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time. Moments like these remind us of the importance of being vigilant and supportive, both in our schools and in our greater community. As we continue our school year, our top priority remains the safety and well-being of every student, staff member, and family within our community.
At South Jackson, we are committed to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for all. We will continue to review and practice our safety procedures to ensure that everyone feels secure and prepared in all situations. We are incredibly grateful for the support and presence provided by the Jackson County Sheriff's Department as well as our school district. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we work together to create a safe space for learning and growth.

Literacy is the key to unlocking a world of possibilities! Let's inspire our children to become lifelong learners by celebrating the joy of reading. In honor of Governor Kemp's proclamation declaring September as Literacy Month, we encourage you to share your favorite childhood books, discuss the importance of reading, and create a reading culture in your home. Together, we can make a difference!
This week, let's read aloud together! Choose books they'll enjoy by selecting stories that match their interests. Ask questions to encourage discussion and deepen their understanding. Use expressive voices to bring the characters to life with different tones and accents.
SJ has teamed up with the Piedmont Regional Library System to provide a special reading challenge program for students during the month of September! The state of Georgia recognizes the month of September with a focus on reading and literacy skills and encourages all Georgians to jump into a good book. This means you!
