Media Center Management
Input from LMS/LIS and professional staff is used to determine student needs and to provide resources which relate to curriculum demands and instructional goals and objectives.
The librarian conducts a collection analysis at the beginning of each year to determine needs in the collection
Teachers are surveyed regarding library needs.
Book lists are reviewed by a committee consisting of the librarian, administrators, teachers, students, and parents.
New materials are selected based on these needs and after looking at the state curriculum standards.
At the end of each school year the librarian will write up an Annual Report.
The LMS/LIS initiates communication and follow-up activities to determine effectiveness of selected resources.
The librarian sends out newsletters and emails with information and requests for feedback.
The librarian asks teachers via email and other means to give recommendations for new materials based on needs of the curriculum.
Written procedures have been established to prioritize need.
These are determined by the collection analysis and written in the selection policy.Â
The LMS/LIS has established written procedures and has obtained needed materials, resources, and equipment, all of which have been labeled and are in order for easy access.
The library materials are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal System and are cataloged in the Destiny Library Automation software that is available online to all students, teachers, staff, and the community.
Library staff is currently working on a genre label project to help students find books of their interest.

The librarian adheres to the Johnson City Schools Challenged Materials Policy included in the handbook.
Circulation procedures have been established to maximize use of library resources and communicated to all patrons.
The SHHS Library webpage is updated to reflect all current policies and procedures.
Signs are posted in the library to notify users of certain policies and procedures.
One large TV in the library displays a scrolling information presentation.
Any changes to the regular routine are on the school announcements.
Materials and resources are current and up to date and reflect the needs of the stakeholders.
The annual collection analysis determines most purchases.
Other purchasing decisions are based on recommendations from stakeholders and align with the selection process outlined in the Johnson City Schools Library Media Handbook.
The yearly budget does not allow for a complete update of the collection, therefore different sections are updated at different times.
There are protocols for maintenance of equipment or resources repair.
Books are repaired with the proper equipment when time allows.
Technology issues are repaired by the Topper Tech Team, the SHHS Tech department or are reported to Central Office via SysAid.
