Media Center Resources
Resources are appropriately integrated with instruction and management procedures.
Library resources are available for use in library lessons, classroom lessons, student projects, counseling sessions, and anywhere else they are needed.
Written plans, policies and procedures are available for library staff.
The library schedule, policies, and procedures are posted on the library website at https://sciencehill.jcschools.org/library , as well as on the bulletin board in the hallway, and on the scrolling TV in the library.
Materials and media are equitable and accessible to all users.
The library is open 7:25 am - 3:00 pm. This changes occassionally because of meetings, etc.
The library is open during lunch, unless otherwise posted. It does close on occasion for classes and special events.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to use the library materials.
Teachers can schedule to bring their classes to the library for orientation, checkout, research, quiet reading, book tastings, etc…
All students are issued a Chromebook to access online materials.
Students who do not have a school-issued Chromebook for certain reasons can be a Day User.
The collection consists of books from a wide range of reading and interest levels.
The Destiny Library Catalog is available online.
Facilities are arranged to accommodate different types of activities, and student movement is meaningful.
Different areas of the library are set up for various activities such as quiet reading, group work, individual work, large groups, and small groups.
Tables as well as soft seating areas are available and are moveable to meet the needs of the users.
We offer a quiet study room.
Materials are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal System and labeled so users can find what they are looking for.
Tables and shelves are arranged to allow for movement around them, including enough space for a wheelchair.
Most floor shelves were placed on rolling casters to make them easier to move when necessary.
The library can accommodate up to three different classes or groups at a time.
Teachers can request a specific area of the library for their class visits, through the online reservation system.
LMS/LIS and user activities allow for maximum use of learning time.
Classroom teachers bring their students to the library.
If instruction is required from the librarian, it is arranged ahead of time so learning can begin as soon as class begins.
The classroom teacher and library staff monitor students to ensure they stay on task.
The librarian manages the Topper Tech Team. This team repairs Chromebooks in a timely manner to get students back on task in the classroom.
The librarian will go to classrooms for lessons when the library is closed, if necessary.
Community resources are used appropriately.
The library works with the PTSA.
Students are provided information on how to acquire a library card to the Johnson City Public Library when requested.
School clubs meet regularly in the library before and after school.
Community groups meet in the library after hours, on occasion.
Donations to the SH Archives are kept for preservation, if deemed worthy of the collection.
A variety of promotional activities are continually incorporated in the library program.
Book displays are changed on a regular basis and highlight books of varying interests to encourage students to read a variety of genres.
All efforts are made to create a culture of reading in the school.
A scrolling display on the TV screen in the library changes weekly. This scroll promotes reading and other educational activities.
A library Instagram page engages stakeholders in the library programs.
An annual bookmark design contest encourages students to showcase their creativity.
Once a month the library hosts a Lunch and Learn and offers an activity for students during lunches.
The library website promotes reading, highlighting books of many genres. The site also provides links to important information such as test prep, college and career information, and drivers license information.
