The ACT® test is the nation’s most popular college entrance exam accepted and valued by all universities and colleges in the United States. The ACT is based on what students learn in high school and provides personalized information about their strengths for education and career planning. All Smoky Mountain High School Students will take the ACT in the spring semester of their Junior year during the school day. Students that wish to attempt the ACT multiple times will need to register at ACT.org.
All juniors can register online for ACT test prep through ACT Academy. ACT Academy takes student's Pre-ACT test score to give them prescriptive test prep that is specific to their testing needs.
All SMHS juniors have the opportunity to utilize ACT Academy to help them prepare for the ACT. Above is a video of how to create your account. Students that need a copy of their PreACT score can come by the Student Support Center to pick it up, email their school counselor to receive a copy, or set up a meeting with Mr. Arthur Cleary to create their account. The Career and College Promise program, referred to as CCP, is North Carolina’s dual enrollment program. The CCP program allows students in the eleventh and twelfth grade to take college courses. However, students may only take courses designated as CCP by the state. Courses are arranged into pathways to give students an opportunity to begin their college careers through earning certificates and/or college transfer credit. Eligibility
Students must be a junior or a senior in high school
Students must have a 2.8 Unweighted Grade Point Average
Students must meet the minimum testing requirements identified for their class or pathway

The North Carolina Governor’s School is the nation’s oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students. It brings together academically and artistically talented students from across the state to live and learn on a university campus for four weeks in the summer — at no cost to families.
Students explore advanced topics in academics or the arts, build connections with other motivated students, and experience a unique learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth.
11th Graders: Eligible in all areas (Academics and Arts)
10th Graders: Eligible only in the Arts (Dance, Choral Music, Instrumental Music)
Students must also meet at least one of the following:
Unweighted GPA of 3.25 or higher OR weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher
Score of 4+ on an NC End-of-Course exam OR 3+ on an AP exam
Grade of B or higher in a Career College Promise or University course
Minimum composite score of 19 on Pre-ACT/ACT or 1010 on PSAT/SAT
Minimum score at the 90th percentile on an aptitude assessment
