5-10 minute video lesson (see below) followed by video directions for the activity they will complete on their own. Combined video not to exceed 10 min K-2 and 15 min 3-5 as a guideline.
Interactive Read Aloud: As an example, the video recorded mini-lesson could include a 5 minute read aloud with built in pauses for students to respond aloud even if they are just watching.
Shared Reading ; As an example, invite students to read aloud with you as you read from a projected text. Include pauses for them to voice specific words (e.g., "Little pigs, little pigs . . . (pause for students to fill in) . . . "Let me come in!"
A Reading Mini-Lesson on a specific skill or strategy
Word Study, as appropriate for the grade-level.
Brief video lesson with directions for a writing activity. Balance of direct instruction with time to write. For example, I might do a lesson modeling an element of writing one day that takes 10 minutes and assign 5 minutes of trying it out, and then the next day, post video with 3 minutes of reminders and give the rest of the time for independent writing.
