Jackson R-2 STUDENT COVID-19 Procedures

Screening

  1. All STUDENTS should be screened by a guardian prior to their arrival at school.

    1. Guardians should ask the following questions:

      • Has your student had a fever in the last 3 days?

      • Has the student been experiencing any respiratory symptoms?

      • Does the child have any symptoms such as chills, fever, muscle pain, new loss of taste or smell, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat?

    2. Guardians should take the student’s temperature (to be allowed to attend school the child’s temperature should be 100 degrees or less).

  2. Guardians will keep documentation of the student’s screenings.

  3. Any student with COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed at school and/or will be sent home immediately.


Reporting

  1. Students/parents should notify their school nurse if they test positive with COVID-19 or if someone in their immediate family tests positive. The school nurse should notify the Associate Superintendent of Student Services and the Jackson R-2 School District COVID Coordinator at covidcoordinator@jr2mail.org.

  2. If a student’s immediate family or a person living under the same roof with a student has tested positive, that person should notify the school nurse and self quarantine as directed by the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center (CGCPHC)

  3. The District will work with the local health department (CGCPHC) to follow proper notification procedures as necessary for those in immediate contact with the person who tests positive.

  4. Broad communication by the District to proper groups will be sent, as necessary, to communicate a positive case of a student.


Returning

  1. The following return to school student guidelines will be used for students with symptoms of COVID-19:

    • Must be fever free a minimum of 48 hours without fever reducing medication,

    • AND have an improvement in symptoms (cough/shortness of breath).

  2. Return to school student guidelines will be used for students who have a positive COVID-19 test or are diagnosed as presumptive COVID-19 by his/her physician.

    • Must be fever free a minimum of 48 hours without fever reducing medication,

    • AND have an improvement in symptoms (cough/shortness of breath),

    • AND be at least 10 days since symptoms first appeared (no cough, fever, or difficulty breathing) for 48 hours.

    • OR bring Medical Clearance to return to school from their licensed health care provider.

  3. Students will be advised that immediate family members or a person living under the same roof should self-quarantine at home for 14 days after the last day of exposure when the student has been diagnosed with COVID-19 (presumptive or by positive test).


Athletes

Jackson R-2 ATHLETIC COVID-19 Procedures

Preworkout Screening

  1. All ATHLETES and COACHES should be screened prior to a workout.

    1. Ask the following questions:

      • Have you had a fever in the last 3 days?

      • Are you experiencing any respiratory symptoms?

      • Do you have any symptoms such as chills, fever, muscle pain, new loss of taste or smell, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat?

    2. Check temperature. To attend, the temperature must be 100 degrees or less.

  2. Coaches will keep documentation records of athlete and coach screening.

  3. Any person with positive symptoms should not be allowed in the workout and should be sent home immediately.


Facilities Cleaning

  1. Adequate cleaning schedules should be in place for all facilities.

  2. Prior to anyone entering facilities all hard surfaces should be wiped down and sanitized.

  3. Individuals should wash hands prior to touching any surfaces or participating in a workout.

  4. Hand sanitizer should be available to individuals transferring from place to place.

  5. Weight equipment should be wiped down thoroughly before and after each use.


Hydration

  1. All students should have their own water bottle.

  2. Water bottles must not be shared.

  3. Water fountains are closed on campus. Water bottle filling stations should be used to fill water bottles.


Reporting

  1. Student athletes should notify their coach if they test positive or if someone in their immediate family tests positive. Coaches should notify the Athletic Director if an athlete or a coach tests positive. The coach should notify the Associate Superintendent of Student Services and the Jackson R-2 School District COVID Coordinator at covidcoordinator@jr2mail.org.

  2. If a student athlete or coach’s immediate family or a person living under the same roof with an athlete or coach has tested positive, that person should notify their coach and/or Athletic Director and self quarantine as directed by the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center (CGCPHC).

  3. The District will work with the local health department (CGCPHC) to follow proper notification procedures as necessary for those in immediate contact with the person who tests positive.

    • Monitor symptoms for 48 hours,

    • If symptoms persist contact the COVID-19 Hotline at 573-331-4200,

    • If symptoms are gone, he/she must be symptom free for a minimum of 48 hours without medication.

  2. The following return to athletics guidelines will be used for athletes and coaches with no symptoms of close contact of COVID-19:

    • Athlete or coach contact the local health department (CGCPHC) and follow their guidelines as well as contacting the Jackson R-2 School District COVID Coordinator at covidcoordinator@jr2mail.org.

    • Quarantine for 14 days from date of contact with positive case and monitor for symptoms,

    • If symptoms appear, contact the COVID-19 Hotline at SFMC 573-331-4200 or SE Health 573-519-4983.

    • and the Jackson R-2 School District COVID Coordinator at covidcoordinator@jr2mail.org.

    • Take a COVID-19 test,

    • If positive:

      • AND be at least 10 days with no symptoms (no cough, fever, or difficulty breathing) for 48 hours.

      • OR bring Medical Clearance to return to school from their licensed health care provider.

    • If negative:

      • Self monitor,

      • Symptom free for 48 hours without medication,

      • If symptoms continue, contact health care provider and Jackson R-2 School District COVID Coordinator at covidcoordinator@jr2mail.org.

  3. Return to athletics guidelines will be used for athletes or coaches who have symptoms of COVID-19 and have been in close contact with a COVID-19 positive case/person.

    • Contact the COVID-19 Hotline at SFMC 573-331-4200 or SE Health 573-519-4983,

    • Take a COVID-19 test,

    • If positive:

      • Must be 10 days since symptoms first appeared (no cough, fever, or difficulty breathing) for 48 hours.

      • OR bring Medical Clearance to return to school from their licensed health care provider to return sooner.

    • If negative:

      • Self monitor,

      • Symptom free for 48 hours without medication,

      • If symptoms continue, must re-test, and get a 2nd negative test.

  4. Advise athletes or coaches that immediate family members or a person living under the same roof should self-quarantine at home for 14 days after the last day of exposure when the student/staff member has been diagnosed with COVID-19 (presumptive or by positive test).


Staff

Jackson R-2 STAFF COVID-19 Procedures

Screening

  1. All STAFF should screen themselves prior to the arrival at school.

    • Staff should ask the following questions:

      • Have you had a fever in the last 3 days?

      • Have you been experiencing any respiratory symptoms?

      • Do you have any symptoms such as chills, fever, muscle pain, new loss of taste or smell, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat?

    • Staff should take their temperature (to be allowed to attend school the staff’s temperature should be 100 degrees or less).

  2. Staff will keep documentation of the staff’s screenings.

  3. Any staff with COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed at school and will be sent home immediately.


Reporting

  1. Staff should notify their building principal if they have symptoms, test positive, or if someone in their immediate family tests positive. They should also notify the Jackson R-2 School District COVID Coordinator at covidcoordinator@jr2mail.org and fill out the Google Form

  2. If a staff’s immediate family or a person living under the same roof with the staff has tested positive, that person should notify the building principal and the Jackson R-2 School District COVID Coordinator at covidcoordinator@jr2mail.org, self quarantine for 14 days.

  3. The District will work with the local health department (CGCPHC) to follow proper notification procedures as necessary for those in immediate contact with the person that tests positive.

  4. Broad communication by the District to proper groups will be sent, as necessary, to communicate a positive case of a staff member.


Returning

  1. The following return to staff guidelines will be used for staff with symptoms with no close contact of COVID-19:

    • Monitor symptoms for 48 hours,

    • If symptoms persist contact the COVID-19 Hotline at 573-331-4200 and the Jackson R-2 School District COVID Coordinator at covidcoordinator@jr2mail.org

    • If symptoms are gone, he/she must be symptom free for a minimum of 48 hours without medication.

  2. The following return to staff guidelines will be used for staff with no symptoms of close contact of COVID-19:

    • Staff contact the local health department (CGCPHC) and the Jackson R-2 School District COVID Coordinator at covidcoordinator@jr2mail.org and follow their guidelines,
