The Nonstructural Elements Research Group at the University School for Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia was born in 2018 under the auspices of the "Dipartimenti di Eccellenza" research project funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research. The activities of the Research Group are carried out under the leadership of Prof. André Filiatrault.
The mission of the Nonstructural Elements Research Group at IUSS Pavia is to contribute to the improvement of the resilience of communities to earthquakes by promoting research, education and training related to the seismic performance of nonstructural elements.
The main areas of interest for the Nonstructural Elements Research Group are:
Performance-based seismic design of nonstructural elements.
Evaluation of the seismic demand for the design of nonstructural elements.
Experimental testing of nonstructural elements.
Numerical modelling of nonstructural elements
Development of methodologies for the qualification of nonstructural elements.
Development of fragility functions of nonstructural elements.
Use of the Building Information Modelling for the seismic design of nonstructural elements.
The Nonstructural Elements Research Group is constantly developing new research. To see all publications created by the NSE Research Group visit the Publications section.
Milan was selected to host the 18th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering.
The paper "Integrated Structural-Nonstructural Performance Based Seismic Design and Retrofit Optimization of Buildings" authored by Paul Steneker, André Filiatrault, Lydell Wiebe, and Dimitrios Konstantinidis, was awarded the ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering Best Paper Award in the category of "Best Paper in Analysis & Computation for 2021", which recognizes the highest quality paper in SHM/structural system identification, optimization, computing and reliability areas.
Congratulations! to our members for this important award.
A new Dissemination section was added to share video presentations, useful tools, data, theses, and dissertations developed by the Nonstructural Elements Research Group.
The Fifth International Workshop on Seismic Performance of Non-Structural Elements organized by the SPONSE Association, took place on the campus of Stanford University in Palo Alto, California (USA) on December 5 to 7, 2022. The proceedings of the workshop are presented as the SPONSE/ATC-161 Report and can be downloaded here.
