The Journey Into Virtual Reality event allowed learners to explore immersive virtual environments beyond the classroom. Through interactive experiences, students explored ocean ecosystems, strengthened observation skills, and participated in career simulations.
Learners researched and explored career pathways such as Manufacturing; Architecture and Construction; Law; Public Safety; Arts and Media; Transportation and Logistics; and Hospitality and Tourism, helping them connect personal interests to future possibilities.
This event highlighted how virtual reality can inspire curiosity, creativity, and real‑world learning.
During a recent Eco Engineer Workshop, learners explored what happens to everyday trash after it is thrown away and discovered that recycling is more complex than it may seem. Through guided discussion, they examined the energy required for recycling and discussed environmental challenges affecting their communities, including pollution, waste management, and water conservation.
Learners then participated in a hands‑on engineering challenge, using common household items and recycled materials to brainstorm, design, and build creative solutions to real‑world problems.
This engaging workshop encouraged creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking, helping learners see how simple materials and thoughtful ideas can lead to meaningful environmental solutions.
LLVS learners recently participated in a heartwarming event centered on kindness, connection, and a shared love for animals. Students interacted with certified therapy dogs, learning how these gentle companions provide comfort and emotional support in schools, hospitals, and communities.
Learners enjoyed petting and playing with the dogs while experiencing their calming impact. The event also included a service component, as learners made homemade pet treats to take home or donate to a local animal shelter. To conclude the day, learners created cozy tie blankets that were raffled for learners to keep or donate to an animal shelter of their choice.
Thank you to the Alliance of Therapy Dogs for making this event a success!
LLVS learners recently took part in the Zoom and Inflate STEM Challenge, a hands‑on experience that blended creativity, engineering, and friendly competition. Students designed and tested balloon‑powered cars, exploring how shape, materials, and structure affect motion and distance. Through testing, refining, and racing their designs, learners strengthened problem‑solving skills while gaining a deeper understanding of key science concepts—all in an engaging and exciting STEM challenge.
Learners enjoyed a hands‑on fossil and mineral workshop led by Sue and Chuck Garrett of the Lancaster County Fossil & Mineral Club. They shared stories from fossil‑hunting trips across the country and demonstrated how fossils are found and preserved. A highlight was seeing a 34‑million‑year‑old turtle fossil discovered by Chuck.
Students explored a wide variety of fossils and were excited to take home items such as steinkerns, Stylemys turtle pieces, stingray mouthplates, shark teeth, and fossilized mammal bones. The workshop sparked curiosity and a deeper appreciation for paleontology and the natural world.

Our online learners had a fantastic visit to Millersville University! We began with an informative overview covering the application process, tuition and fees, available majors, and the many ways students can get involved on campus.
From there, we headed out to explore the grounds. Students got to experience the dining hall, step inside a residence hall room, and tour the Student Memorial Center. Along the way, we enjoyed views of the scenic Millersville Pond, walked past academic buildings and libraries, and wrapped up our visit at the Lombardo Admission Center.
Our learners enjoyed an exciting hands‑on wildlife experience during a special visit from Acorn Acres Wildlife Rehabilitation.
Students explored fascinating facts about local wildlife, learning how groundhogs, squirrels, and opossums survive and thrive in our region.
The visit wrapped up with a lively Q&A and close‑up encounters with Acorn Acres’ rescued animal ambassadors — a favorite moment for many learners.
A HUGE Thank you to PLP for sponsoring this amazing event!
Our LLVS online learners enjoyed an afternoon of cupcake decorating at Lancaster Cupcake. With cupcakes, frosting, and plenty of toppings provided, students transformed their treats into colorful creations with guided help from the Lancaster Cupcake team. Everyone even enjoyed refreshing strawberry lemonade while they decorated!
Students left with six beautifully decorated cupcakes—just in time for Valentine’s Day! It was a fun, creative, and sweet way to celebrate friendship and spend time together.
Our recent virtual field trip to the North Museum was an exciting exploration of science, nature, and technology! Students engaged in hands-on activities that brought concepts in geology, biology, and more to life, and the planetarium experience transported them through the universe to discover stars, planets, and galaxies. They asked questions, shared ideas, and collaborated in discussions, making learning interactive and fun.
A big thank you to Harris Digital Learning for sponsoring this enriching experience for our online learners!
Our Winter Wonderland Celebration brought students together for a joyful day filled with creativity, treats, and festive cheer. Learners enjoyed making winter‑themed crafts, decorating cookies, and expressing their artistic side at the coloring station. One of the most meaningful moments was creating heartfelt cards for residents of a local nursing home, spreading warmth throughout the community. With cheerful music and a few fun surprises along the way, the event truly captured the magic of the season, leaving everyone smiling.
