In Communication and Mental Health, we discussed the role that our communication with each other and the world around us can impact our mental health, both from a personal and professional perspective. One of the big highlights from this class is the concept of communication being bioactive, or both affecting every single part of our body and being affected by our body at the same time.
This class was a discussion heavy class, between small group and whole class discussions.
Nomadland is a movie that follows Fern, the main character, through her journey of grief and mental health as someone who does not fit into the normal structure of society. We analyzed this film through context of financial instability and how it affects people, the factors of age and gender explored in this movie, the relationship between isolation and connection, and mental health with Fern's actions and interaction with the world.
My personal portion of this assignment was the coping with financial instability theme, along with the clips that are inserted throughout and the final slide applying communication theories to the film.
As the final project for this class, we created videos that give practical advice using information from this past semester. Videos were done with the same people who did the presentation of Nomadland with me. Although a bit funny and unprofessional, they showcases what we learned in an engaging way.
