Organic Chemistry Laboratory I
This course is the lab portion of Chem-C341, the first semester of organic chemistry. It was worth 2 credit hours. It was instructed by Dr. Hongqiu Zhao. I took this course in Fall '23.
Here is the syllabus.
Investigating Substitution Reactions of Various Alcohol-Containing Compounds
The goal of this experiment was to synthesize a reaction scheme capable of producing the desired product. In lecture, we learn about the four main reaction mechanisms: substitution, elimination, addition, and rearrangement. Understanding the mechanism can help one determine what procedural steps need to be taken to synthesize the product.
This experiment was carried out with two other students. We brainstormed together to determine a plausible reaction scheme then carried out the reactions individually. We all wrote our own reports.
