Introducing a simulation lab to onboarding employees would help improve the quality and delivery of care and help build trust between staff and patients. The goal of the simulation lab is to build the employee’s competence and confidence in delivering care while striving for consistency with performance expectations. Some scenario-based training in a controlled environment would help employees improve on essential skills like critical thinking, professionalism in patient and family interactions, positive reinforcements, bedside manners, safe use of ambulatory equipment, redirecting techniques for altered mental status patients, practicing infection control, hygiene assistance, and other core clinical tasks. Practicing in scenario-based training would also help nursing assistants understand the patient’s perspective and help build empathy and respect for patients when treating them. Overall, providing a simulation lab will ensure nursing assistants are clinically competent and have an increased level of professionalism from the start of their employment.
After speaking to the owner of Donesty’s Loving Touch Home Care Services, we discovered that she has a three day onboarding process/training process. She endorsed that during this time, a new employee will shadow a previous employee. Having a longer onboarding process, about 7 days would be beneficial to allow the new employee to become comfortable in their role. Based on research it is key to teach advanced topics such as patient care and assist in harder tasks during onboarding and initial training. This allows for growth healthcare providers autonomy because they dealt with difficult topics during onboarding. Implementing this program depicted an increase in retention of healthcare professionals which would be beneficial for Donesty’s Loving Touch Home Care Services.
Based on our research, Donestys Loving Touch would benefit from monthly team bonding and appreciation meetings for burnout. Studies show that supportive relationships among healthcare workers and caregivers, and patients significantly impact job satisfaction and quality of care (Manda & Johnston, 2020). Regular meetings that include team-building activities and recognition of employee contributions can help foster a sense of belonging and emotional support, essential in high-stress caregiving environments. Mitchell (2019) emphasized the importance of emotional intelligence and a caring disposition in healthcare roles—qualities that can be nurtured through positive social interaction and organizational support. Creating structured time each month to reconnect, reflect, and show appreciation can reinforce a compassionate workplace culture, boost employee morale, and improve staff retention. These meetings would also provide management with a consistent platform to check in on staff wellbeing, address concerns proactively, and celebrate successes, ultimately promoting a healthier, more cohesive caregiving environment.
Implementing secure chat platforms is essential for home healthcare staff to discuss patient status with employers while maintaining patient privacy and complying with regulations such as HIPAA. These platforms ensure sensitive information is protected and accessible only to authorized personnel.
Feedback highlights a strong demand for professional development and training, particularly in communication and bedside manner. Investing in regular soft skills training-such as active listening, empathy, and clear communication-can address issues of unsympathetic or careless interactions reported by clients. Doing regularly collected and acted on feedback from both patients and staff through surveys and one-on-one sessions helps identify communication gaps and areas for improvement, leading to better care outcomes and higher satisfaction.
