Executive Summary
This report addresses a critical issue facing Donesty’s Loving Touch Home Care Services in Indianapolis Indiana: the retention of compassionate and qualified home healthcare workers. As a business dedicated to giving care through love, compassion, and quality homecare, the organization has struggled with a disconnect between its mission and the day-to-day delivery of care by its staff. This gap compromises patient satisfaction and well-being, making it vital to investigate the root causes of the problem and implement effective solutions.
Through a combination of primary and secondary research—including a public survey, an in-person interview with the business owner, a literature review and 4 months of group research—we found several core issues contributing to low retention and diminished compassion among staff. Key challenges include emotional burnout, inadequate training, lack of recognition, and insufficient emotional and administrative support. Data from 43 survey respondents, including both healthcare professionals and the public, revealed widespread concern over the professionalism and compassion shown by home healthcare workers in the area, as well as the lack of systemic support that would allow them to thrive.
Based on our research, we propose targeted recommendations aimed at strengthening caregiver support systems, enhancing staff training, recognizing caregiver contributions, and improving communication between staff, patients, and families. These steps are designed to help Donesty’s Loving Touch Home Care Services better align its day-to-day operations with its compassionate mission, leading to higher patient satisfaction and improved staff retention.
