Having been Vice President last year, Joshua is excited to continue to contribute to the student chapter in new and exciting ways. Continuing to grow his network, Joshua continues to expose himself to new ideas about transportation, and new ways to help spread the word about the opportunities that exist within this field of engineering.
An undergraduate student in the Civil Engineering program, he has over a year of combined experience as an inspector in the consulting industry, helping clients and contractors on municipal projects, such as roads and water supply lines, in places across Manitoba. He is also a council member of the University of Manitoba Engineering Society (UMES).
In his free time, Joshua seems to find himself on a flight to one place or another. He strives to learn more about the environments he finds himself in, and how these environments impact the people who inhabit them. He is still trying to read the entirety of The Power Broker.
Darin is in his final year of the Civil Engineering program at the University of Manitoba. He has a keen interest in transit planning and infrastructure, and strives to create a positive impact within the community. Darin is also a huge train nerd.
Darin has spent the last few years gaining valuable experience in the civil engineering field, specifically within the Greater Vancouver Area over his numerous work terms with Stantec Consulting. He hopes to continue making an impact within the Vancouver community, while bringing innovative ideas back to Winnipeg, and also make a bigger impact here.
In his free time, you can find Darin on a flight to his next travel destination, eager to see what the rest of the world’s transportation engineering infrastructures are really like! Darin also enjoys photography, capturing the beauty of nature, and sharing it with the rest of the world.
Haiyun is in her final year of pursuing a bachelor’s in civil engineering. She joined U of M ITE Student Chapter two years ago and has been actively involved since. Haiyun has attended two ITE conferences, participated in a traffic bowl, and engaged in networking events.
Haiyun’s professional journey started with an experience as a Project Estimator, where she has collaborated with various teams, including project managers, construction professionals, and environmental specialists. In her most recent co-op as a technical assistant with the City of Winnipeg’s traffic signal timing team, Haiyun gained in-depth knowledge of signal logics and optimization, learned how signal timing impacts daily lives, and is motivated to deepening her understanding to improve people’s lives as an engineer.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Haiyun enjoys travelling, playing piano, and building LEGO.

Nasim obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering. Her enthusiasm for applying to a Ph.D. program in Transportation Engineering is rooted in the type of research she carried out for her Master’s thesis at the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran and her experience of working in the industry, where she could apply machine learning and optimization methods for complex and interactive systems to solve real-world problems.
Nasim started her Ph.D. study at U of M in Winter 2022. Her current research centers around the estimation of origin-destination trips using deep learning approaches, specifically focusing on freight transportation. This research aims to contribute to the resilience and safety of the freight transportation network of the Canadian Prairie and Northern Region. Nasim has been the Technical Chair of the U of M ITE Student Chapter since September 2023.
Gurman is currently in his fifth year studying at the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba. With his enthusiasm for community involvement, he is thrilled to serve as the Community Chair for ITE in his third year as being the member of ITE. Under his guidance, there are plans to host numerous community outreach programs that will foster engagement and education.
Beyond ITE, Gurman has actively participated in several student organizations, which showcases his adaptability and passion for exploring diverse avenues in the field of engineering. As a tech enthusiast, he has worked on his skills in computer programming and has ventured into freelance work, focusing on the development of open-source video games.
When he’s not immersed in his academic and professional pursuits, Gurman loves to go hiking and trekking outside. Additionally, he also loves video gaming, a hobby that both entertains and informs him in game development.
Paramveer Singh is in his fourth year studying for a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He loves his field and is involved in student chapters to learn more and connect with others. When he’s not studying, Param likes spending time outdoors, hiking, cycling, and playing soccer with friends, which helps him relax. He also cares a lot about helping his community.
