ISM is our school, and each of us has the responsibility to make it a safe environment and a wonderful place to learn.
We are committed to the four ISM Values on which we base the Behavioural Expectations we have for everyone.
Behaviour
The ISM school vision and mission outline our commitment to providing an outstanding education for our students. This education can only be delivered if there is an agreed and common understanding of the importance of excellent behaviour from all of our students.
All students are encouraged to behave in a manner which does themselves and the school credit. They should be polite, helpful and considerate, showing sensitivity towards each other and respectful to all members of staff. High standards are expected and insisted upon, not only on the school site, but also on trips and visits.
The school works in partnership with parents to ensure that good behaviour is upheld. Parents are invited to workshops and meetings during the course of the year, as well as being provided with school information on expected behaviour and student well-being via the website and school publications. Homeroom teachers and other colleagues will meet with a parent to address a strategy for any required improvement in student behaviour. From time to time, the school recognises that it may be required to work with external agencies to assess the needs of students who display continuous disruptive behaviour, providing the student with adequate support.

Attendance
The ISM school vision and mission outline our commitment to providing an outstanding education for your children. This education can only be delivered if there is an agreed and common understanding of the importance of excellent attendance from all of our students.
Registration and notifying Absence
Registers are taken early morning through our Engage Data management system. ISM will SMS (from Year 3 and up) parents if there is an unexplained absence of which the school has not been informed.
If your child is sick, we must be notified before 08:15 to support safeguarding, on each day of absence, so that we know your child is safe and accounted for.
Please either dial +377 93 25 68 20 extension 2 or send an email to fayanne.harper@ismonaco.com or primaryyears.reception@ismonaco.com and copy in healthcoordinators@ismonaco.com.
Any medical absence of 2 days or more will only be authorised with a medical certificate from a doctor.
For medical appointments, Please send a notification to fayanne.harper@ismonaco.com or primaryyears.reception@ismonaco.com.
Kindly note that students in the Primary Years may not leave/arrive during lesson times as this disrupts the learning. Upon return to school, a doctor’s certificate must be presented to the Primary School Reception.
Absence due to personal or family reasons:
Parents who request a leave of absence must write to the Head of Primary Years, requesting permission. Absences for family holidays are unacceptable, and parents should not expect these to be approved. If there are exceptional circumstances to be considered, the case will always be referred to the Director. The Director’s decision in all cases is final and it should be noted that attendance is provided on reports to future schools. Link to Attendance PolicyIf you are asking for time off during the school term, then you must address your request directly to Mr Gauthier, Head of Primary School, at emmanuel.gauthier@ismonaco.com and keep fayanne.harper@ismonaco.com in copy. Permission can only be granted by the Head of Primary Years.

Lateness
It is expected that all students arrive at school by 8:30 am for registration. Frequent lateness can have as much of an impact on learning as absence. Lateness will be monitored, and persistent lateness will be discussed with parents.
N.B. All students arriving after 8:30 will be marked as late. Students who arrive late must firstly report to the Main Reception.
In order to ensure smooth running of the lesson and avoid disruption, Primary Years school students arriving later than 8:45 won't be permitted to join class in the midst of a lesson and must return later.
Alternative drop off will be authorised during the morning break or the lunch break provided the school has been informed in advance.

Homework
Parents at home with homework can have a huge positive impact on their children’s progress and learning, so we really welcome parents’ support and help in this area.
Most importantly, reading is going to have the greatest impact on school progress and improvement in all subjects. Within the homework timetable, it is expected that students read in both English and French regularly, and this will be an important part of parent support to facilitate this. In addition, although there is no homework during the holidays, reading will be an expectation.
During term time, making homework a smoother experience starts by providing a dedicated space for children to focus on their studies. Create a clean space that is relatively free of distractions – including TVs and phones.
Our Homework Policy also looks at how you can help at home :
Support the school in explaining to students that homework is valued and supports learning
Support their child with regard to homework, without “taking over”
Follow the guidance given by the school about time spent on homework
Provide a suitable environment for students to complete homework
Support the school by expecting homework to be completed and handed in at the correct time
Express any concern about any aspect of homework to the relevant member of staff
Regularly check the student homework book, student planner or Google classroom for homework set.
Each school will also have its own individual guidelines and timetables. The document does outline the amount of time spent on homework for each year group. You can also support your child in ensuring that time spent on homework (free of distractions and phones) does not exceed this time. We also recognise that free time for sports and other activities are equally beneficial to our students.
Please do read our Homework Policy and do contact the Homeroom or Classroom teacher if you have any questions.

Information and Communication Technologies
“With freedom comes responsibility”
The International School of Monaco is committed to providing staff and students with a suite of safe, secure, and flexible digital tools in order to facilitate an excellent teaching and learning environment. It is appropriate for staff and students to be allowed trust and freedom in using Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for study, work and leisure, providing they adhere to the carefully created guidelines and requirements as outlined in this document.
Central to our approach are guidelines concerning ‘cloud-based working’, as the security of our data and the manner in which it is handled from creation to deletion is of the utmost importance. Exactly the same standards apply to electronic material as to material in any other form. If material is considered to be unacceptable by the school when presented in a book, magazine, video, audio tape or spoken form, then it is not acceptable on the ICT network.
It is strictly prohibited to use any information and communications technology to cause harm to any other member of the ISM community (student, teacher, parent, staff). This rule is applicable both inside and outside of the school.
