Conjunctivitis is an infection of the eye, usually caused by a bacteria or a virus, and is highly contagious.

Symptoms include redness and/or a ‘veiny” appearance of the white of the eye; a watery or mucus‐like discharge, which causes crusting of the eyelid, especially noticeable in the morning; and in some cases, complaints of an itching or burning sensation in the eye.

Infection spreads from person to person by direct contact; therefore proper hand washing technique is important, as well as keeping hands away from the eyes.

If you notice symptoms of conjunctivitis, please keep your child home and contact your doctor. The usual treatment is an antibiotic ointment or drops, students are able to return to school after 24 hours of treatment. It is important that these eye drops are administered as per prescription. If you need your child to be given these drops whilst at school please contact us in the clinic (nurse@ishcmc.edu.vn).
