Head lice are tiny insects that live on the scalp and infect the hair. Symptoms include intense itching of the scalp. Please inform your child's teacher and the School Nurse if you find your child to have head lice. This sharing of information will better help us to reduce the incidence of re-occurrence of head lice within your child’s class. To reduce cases and prevent re-infestation, students who are found to be positive need to be excluded from school and cannot resume school until the treatment has been effective, meaning there are no live lice. Each child will be screened by the Nurses prior to their returning to class. A follow-up head check by the School Nurse will be conducted one week following initial treatment on any student who was positive for head lice.

  • Tying hair back

  • Using gel to control loose hairs

  • Using a stay-in conditioner or tea tree oil on a regular basis

  • Conducting weekly head checks at home using the recommended conditioner/combing detection method

  • Not sharing hats or combs during the school day
