My name is Aliina Peterson, LICSW. I've worked at New Prague Middle School since 2014. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Concordia College in Moorhead and my Master of Social Work from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
As a member of the educational team, my role as the school social worker is to promote and support students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success. I work closely with students to identify and address barriers to learning and achievement.
I provide both preventive and intervention services, including individual and group therapeutic skill-building, with a focus on a strengths-based approach that fosters personal growth. Additionally, I offer resources and referrals, behavioral support and intervention strategies, and promote students’ social, emotional, and mental well-being.
My role also includes supporting attendance and truancy processes, as well as implementing individualized school support plans when needed. I regularly collaborate and consult with school staff, community organizations, and external professionals to ensure comprehensive support for students and their families.
As an advocate for your child, I encourage you to reach out with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. I am here to serve as a support and resource for both your student and your family.
